Where have all my old fads gone...

Ever wonder what ever happened to some of your old fads. Well, if you can remember either of these, then you are flippin' old!

Fad number 1: Clacker Ball (aka Klackers, Knockers, Knocker Bockers)
This toy was a nightmare for parents. Bruised and broken arms, smacking your friends in the head with them. They were hard to master, they were extremely noisy. Perfect for the angst child in the 70s.

Wonder what ever happened to such a nightmare toy? Well, they actually still exist. But sadly, they've been plasticized and neutered by not allowing free form hitting; instead they are controlled so they only go back and forth exactly the same. What fun is that?

Fad number 2: Wacky Packages. Remember these? They were around from the late 1960s until the early 1980s. They parodied various products and sold just like baseball cards. I happened to have kept mine from the 70s. What was a simple stack of unstuck ones wrapped by a rubber band for 22 years, I ended up selling on ebay for over $500!!! Not bad to be a pack rat sometimes.

Ever wonder what happened to them? They also are still around. Topps came back out with them in 2004 to huge success. Also, the vintage ones go for a lot of money now as many aging baby boomers collect them now.

I loved my clacker balls.
I used to take them in the back yard and throw them at a tree bolo style.
Of course, these days my wife is happy to bust my balls for me.
