Ok, on the way to camping, I went through this town called Dufur, OR. This is a town that is:
a. Off of the main freeway
b. Even off the secondary highway
In other words, to go through Dufur, you almost have to be going to Dufur. Only this one eastern section of the forest is the other destination you could end up at. But because my secret camping area happens to be in that area, I go through Dufur a few times a year.
The weird part about Dufur is that there are blocks and blocks of houses and businesses but I have yet to see anybody outside just hanging out or walking around. It's like a movie set or something. Where are all these people? Are they vampires and only come out at night? It's very weird.
Oh, but one time I went through when the high school was having a football game and they came out like zombies in a Night of the Living Dead reunion. There were people everywhere. They must have hired people to come up from LA or something because clearly this many people couldn't be living around here!
Anway, it's a weird little town. I'm sure Stephen King could do wonders with it.

You totally left out Rufus! We used to call them Rufur and Dufus :-) LOVE IT!!!!
Arlene - You are right! How could I forget about Rufus errr Dufus!
Sounds creepy! I bet Stephen King already wrote about that town! When the movie comes out...you can say "I have been there and I didn't get sucked by vampires!"
What's it near?
See, this is why I'm scared of small towns. I've read WAY too many horror novels.:-)
Or maybe they are all dead, and there is a murderer there, waiting on the next victims to stop at the gas station....kinda like House of Wax or House of 1,000 Corpses....
I LOVE me some horror movies!
Ooo! OOoo! Write this story, E! OR even a poem. Send it in to the Sporty Spec anthology!
You could call it "Zombie Touchdown".
jenny - Could I at least get sucked by the hot female ones ;)
kurt - It's about 85 miles east of Portland and maybe 10 miles from "The Dalles", another smaller town but way bigger than Dufur.
sj - Yep, it's creepy quiet there.
shawna - This is why I don't stop for gas. I saw the Hills Have Eyes (both versions)...
lbb - Interesting. Now that might be a challenge. I'd have to defer it for awhile though; I'm leaving for Africa on Friday.
I heard something about genocide in Dufur. Or maybe somewhere else. Anyway, what's Paris Hilton up to?
Diesel - I think they should have put Paris in Dufur. THAT would teach her!!
Yeah I thought you were joking about Darfur... Your scary looking Howdy Doody face made me think so.
But I was wrong. sorry.
I have to go now.
Too weird. Sounds like something out of the twilight zone.
Do they have a Walmart there? It can't be THAT small and weird if there is a Walmart there.
Dufur? You are makin stuff up. Is that a real place? What do people du-fer fun there?
Sure, why not!
