Smart Carts

I had lunch with some co-workers yesterday and they were talking about SMART grocery shopping carts that were going to be coming out. You see, I feel sorry for my co-workers in that they didn’t discover the benefits of global holidays and so they got stuck with actually having to work this year. I try to ease their frustration by having lunch with them on occasion and fill them with hope based on my own frolicking adventures. I know, it’s the least I can do…they hate me…

Anyway, these smart shopping carts; now that’s an interesting idea. What might these be?

Perhaps I can download my shopping list and then just plug it into the cart and it’ll direct me to what aisle I need to start in and what to pick up as I go up and down the aisles in the most efficient matter! Cool.

Perhaps there’s some special technology that will actually throw the food from the shelf into my cart as I walk by. Very cool. Just be careful when you cross by somebody in the store or you might get a can of soap across the mid-section…

Perhaps it can do more. Perhaps I can input my weight goals into it and then if I suddenly give in the urge to gorge on hostess fruit pies it lets of a gigantic screeching sound that prompts me to remove said items before the rest of the store grabs torches and hunts me down.

Perhaps each cart can be self automated and I can do the shopping from the internet at home and then just swing by and pick it up! Wouldn’t that be fun driving the cart around chasing little kids through the store. I could even virtually grab those hostess pies then and not have to suffer the screeching noise…

Perhaps then the cart could be loaded by the cashier as I pay online and then have it make the commute to my house with my groceries. Perhaps I could even get the cart to unload the stuff, cook it, and feed it to me. Oh wait, what am I thinking?…That’s why I got married before! Duh!

very good last paragraph.

but sadly I think the cart is probably just a way to force people to watch advertisments

Oh yes, a cart that does all the work, that's what I want! It would be perfect if I could sit here and blog while my smart cart gets the groceries, brings them home, takes them upstairs and puts them away. Then my robo-butler could take over and do the cooking. ;)

We order most of our groceries on line and then have them delivered. It only cost an extra $5 which is more than worth the time and mileage it takes to actually go to the store. That leaves the store emptier for people like you who like to push carts around ;-)

carla - Yeah, I thought that was funny...instant rock climbing skills!

anne - Good thing it was a stone house!

theresa - We can dream...

jeff - Come on, you love to drive in -30 temperatures and buy impulse things because your starving and steal grapes and other goodies that you "claim" you're just sampling.

Where I live, they already have a service where you can order your groceries online, then they deliver them!

kurt - What's the fun in THAT? I revel in finding the longest line at the checkstand...

Yeah, I could use one of those. Grocery shopping is pretty boring as it is.:)

You know how you sometimes see shopping carts just sitting on the side of the road like a mile from the grocery store? Sometimes I think those are the ones who thought they were too smart to work in a grocery store their whole life.

Sigh. As I calmly *snort* explained to Mr Fabulous....

It is a trolley! A TROLLEY!! TROLLEY TROLLEY TROLLEY TROLLEY

TROLLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

SJ - Not if you toy with and torture other shoppers; have some fun!

diesel - Good point. It's like when I saw cows on the side of the road as a kid I'd think "Your free...head to India"

kelley - Trolley? Trolley? Oh yeah...they have those in San Francisco...they go up and down the steep hills filled with people. Now who would name a shopping cart a trolley????
