Fast Food vs Nutrition: Smackdown!

I already covered the fact that the more nutritional and healthy a product in the supermarket is the more expensive and/or difficult to find it will be.

What about fast food? Why is fast food so damn convenient, cheap, and so bad for you? Can’t you do a drive thru place that offers nutritional items? How about some ingenuity on how to make them convenient enough to eat in the car if you must? I think pure convenience and lack of options pushes a lot of people to fast food. They just don’t structure their lives to have the time for something else.

Did you know there was an imminent court case against Kentucky Fried Chicken over the fact that they were putting too much grease into the waste water and they were impacting the entire sewer system in Pennsylvania? They avoided it by purchasing a grease filtering device. What that tells you is that the food is still just as greasy but they found a way of cleaning up the waste from being so. People? Don’t care… Waste water? Forced to care…

And look at the hamburger offerings. Does this really look appetizing?

Have you ever seen the original costume of Ronald McDonald? It’s dorky and ridiculous. He has a hat that is a tray with a full meal on it. He has a Dixie cup for a nose. It’s a wonder they ever got off the ground.

But really, even though they got rid of the hat and the stupid Dixie cup, check out the outfit he’s got on.

Come on now, parachute knickers? I don’t think so. Seriously, what’s with the stripes? Did he escape from clown prison? Was he buying clothing from the Cat in the Hat? I don’t I go in for the Velveeta Tube stick with stripes look personally.

I think if we reprioritize our focus on health and nutrition rather than convenient crap there will be a few changes. Like these:

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe people actually eat things that look like that "burger". Yuk. But, then again, I'm a bit of a food snob. And Ronald McDonald is the devil's spawn sent to lead our youth astray......

VE said...

arizona - I agree...you are a food snob. Just kidding. Just the fact that Ronald McD is a clown should be enough to run away. Clowns are creepy and not to be trusted...

That hamburger does look pretty good to me, but I am pregnant. And I'd have to pour quite a bit of hot sauce on it.

I'll bet if the colonel would save all that sewer grease, put it in multi-colored cups, and call it "the greezer", he could sell millions.

I believe I just lost my appetite.

I think that Burger King is one of the scariest, most perverted creatures alive. And I use the term alive loosely. :)

I worked a couple of summers in BurgerKing in Copenhagen a long time ago. We got free 'food' and after a couple of weeks I had 'SuperSize' syndrome. It cured me of junk food cravings forever!

damon - the greezer. Good one!

teri - Good point. I don't know what it is but EVERYONE finds that Burger King guy creepy. I didn't think they could top having a creepy clown, but they have...

quickroute - You've seen what happens behind the scenes. Scary. It's like that movie Soylent Green...

mp3 e mp4 - Welcome. I will check out your blog. Anyone who takes the time to comment on mine deserves a return visit. That's my motto...

who's that first character in the line-up??

VE said...

leelee - That's the Jack in the Box guy!

leelee said...

oh...we don't have Jack In The Box here.

I have been to Cali though. I should have known..wait..I never ate there..so maybe I shouldn't know..

I think I should get points for NOT knowing. :-)

HEY! Where's the Domino Pizza delivery guy? Or Papa John?? Do I smell a pizza conspiracy here? Mmmmmm.......pizza.......it'll kill ya, but man, what a tasty demise!:)

VE said...

leelee - Good for you for not knowing!

sprinkle4 - I know, I know. I have a weakness for pizza. Good pizza that is. Plus, they don't have any lame mascots like the others.

I dunno - the hamburger looked good to me. I'm sorta hungry.

VE said...

suburban - Hungry is as hungry does

If we stop eating non-nutritive, waste-producing fast food, the terrorists have won!

Vi said...

Hence why I stay clear of junk food. If I ate KFC now, I'd puke from the grease.

You know, if they'd put a Ronald McDonald lookalike in every fast food place, people would quit eating it pretty fast. I know it would scare the crap out of me and break me of the habit. I do love a good cheeseburger every now and then, though, and it would break my heart to learn that french fries aren't really vegetables.:)

VE said...

kurt - I thought it was the other way around

vi - I just remember a skit from the movie "Kentucky Fried Movie" back in the 70s where they're pouring grease right out from the food box. Imagine how much worse it's gotten since then

sj - That's it. We'll all dress up like Ronald McDonald and scare everyone into breaking the habit! Good one...

The stuff of nightmares... the Taco Hell dog creeps me out.

VE said...

anndi - I know; he might leave a chalupa right there on your carpet...

Couldn't live in this crazy world without some french fries every now and then.

RED MOJO said...

Shouldn't you leave Wendy out of this, you can get a baked potato with brocolli and cheese flavored goo there!

Beth said...

I agree with everything you say (particularly as to Ronald's fashion sense) but I need my burger from Harvey's. (Every once in awhile...)
As for McDonald's - I was always felt sick after eating there. And that was just from nibbling on my kids' fries.

Maureen said...

YIKES! That first Ronald is kerazzzzzy!

Hubby brought tacos home from Taco Bell the other day. I took one sniff and my stomach turned... they were off. Luckily he was having something else that seemed to be fine... but I had to pretend to eat them so as not to have hurt his feelings. I successfully slipped them back in the bag without him noticing...

I'm not eating those ever again.

DAMN! Now I'm jonesing for a Big Mac or should I say Big Muc?
I haven't had one in about 12 years!

Honestly, just the thought of one turns my stomach. ::blech::

I made burgers for dinner tonight and they were so good. We needed some home cooked health food after yesterday when we ate at Dairy Queen and had fast food gyros for dinner.

Jeff said...

Thanks a lot. You've managed to take one of my favorite meals, and make it seem completely disgusting. I may never eat a fast food cheeseburger again.

VE said...

megan - We all have our vices. That's what makes us human.

wendys - Yes, but come on now; they are there for using a wig on some guy...

beth - Yeah, I cannot deal with McDonalds for dinner! Yuk

maureen - Chalupa!

bee - 12 years?! Good for you.

justacoolcat - Dairy Queen? Oooh, I have a weakness for their milkshakes...

jeff - Glad I could help you live longer so that somebody else feeds you when you're really old

That first Ronald scared the living monkey shit outta me.

Just curious does your KFC in America serve burgers like the Australian ones do?

captain corky said...

Haven't you ever been to a Starbucks drive through? Coffee is very nutritional and I don't mind spending 10 bucks on a cup of extremely bitter brew for all those vitamins, electrolytes and minerals.

Jacki said...

LOL....I love this. It is so true. Ever since eating healthy we've had to stay away from fast food, and now it just looks disgusting to me. I was always a McDonalds person, can't stand Wendys or BK or Taco Bell.

nothing is more terrifying than waking up with the "king". that mascot is super creepy. did you ever see that soft porn ad they did with hootie of blowfish in a milk maid fantasy with jugs of gushing ranch dressing?

i think i will have a piece of celery now. thank you.

the colonel. save clogging the sewers - clog your arteries instead!!! problem solved.

I have caulrophobia so I’m gonna have to say John Wayne Gacy, err Ronald McDonald is the scariest!

We actually have a fast-food joint that has a really great sandwich - Chick-Fil-A grilled sandwiches are the BOMB and listed as the best fast-food sandwich by Eat This, Not That. (Only 3.5 grams of fat and the sandwich is awesome. By the way, my family are fast-food-aholics.)

However, if I'm gonna have a cheeseburger, I will always choose What-A-Burger.

alex l - Burgers at KFC??? No way! Weird...

captain corky - Starbucks...don't even get me started on that subject

jacki - I was the BK one...which I hear is one of the worst nutritionally

she - The funny part is that I found that story on KFC by accident. The company that makes the grease containment unit featured it as a good case study for their product. I don't even think they realize that implies how awful the food is!

queen goob - How can Chick-fil-a be healthy? I sounds so stupid!

I'm sick like that.

They all have chicken fillets in them, they are actually not that bad if you dont mind the gut cramps afterwards

Bonnie said...

Did you see that Jessie James of Choppers Jessie James opened a "green" hamburger place.

VE said...

elastic - That's too funny!!!

alex l - Gut cramps...I always look forward to that after a big meal!

bonnie - Welcome. I don't know if I could eat a green hamburger...

Phillip Hodges said...

I have never seen a mcdonalds togo containter, and I have never seen those types of fries at mcdonalds, the bun does not look like the same bun that mcdonalds offers nor does the meat even come close to the circle meat that mcdonalds serves...I have been to mcdonalds around the world and they all have the same look....the picture of the burger and fries looks like it came from a totally different place. mcdonalds has to go bags and the fries are missing their box they come in and the burger is missing its box or wrapper.

VE said...

Phillip - And I have never seen anywhere on my post that says that picture is from McDonalds. Oh...and this is a humor blog...
