Off Key

These days it isn’t surprising to find interesting perceptions on everyday items that you would normally take for granted. Take the key board. Who said it has to be designed one way? Well…I think Microsoft did…but there are some that didn’t listen:

This one is great if you happen to need to type while going around a corner…

Probably a keyboard for meth users. Their minds are wired wrong by then anyway…

It’s like that Alien movie where the alien erupts out of his stomach….never mind.

Eventually they’re going to cut costs at work and take away your desk completely. This keyboard will help.

I’m sure this was acquired from the Romulans in secret…

Hey…wild animals are people too…they have the right to email…

You never know when a tug boat is going to need to pass through your keyboard…

Round and round you go, what you type…nobody knows

You knew it had to happen. Eventually keyboard fashions would spring up. I find this one speeds up my typing skills considerably. Ha ha

This one is called a Twiddler. It leaves your other hand free for “other” activities.

I have no idea. For those fascinated with airplane cockpits I guess.

Supposedly this helps avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. I think if you get enough of them you can link them together like a giant game of “barrel of monkeys”

eve - Don't worry, I don't understand what blogger does sometimes either. I have blogs I visit from one computer that just locks up the browser. Doh!

heh heh
now if they can make one with a pull-out crumb tray I'll be good

VE said...

gc - Are you eating at your keyboard? Shame! Maybe we should just have edible keyboards instead.

I might be able to handle the one that sits in your lap and pops up like an alien. The circular keyboard is hilarious. I was getting dizzy looking at it!

wtf? Some of these actually look like they were constructed for aliens! Doh! Maybe "they" really ARE among us!!!! :-)

VE said...

reforminggeek - Yeah, I don't know that I could handle using any of these. Well, maybe the fashion one! ;)

evil genius - Cow mutilations are up...you NEVER know! ha ha ha

Ooops...sorry, just trying out the new keyboard.

Angel Kitty reminds me of the time my wife and I considered adopting. It fell apart because she wouldn't let me adopt the 17 year old Japanese girl I wanted.

Woody gets all the breaks.

iamnot - You are so bad! ha ha

I'll stick with my $20 keyboard/mouse bundle pack thanks.

I've tried one of those ergonomic, anti-carpal tunnel keyboards and that thing made my hand cramp worse than usual keyboards. I hated it.

How about a keyboard with softer keys so I don't chip my nail polish?

You now if I wasn't working so hard for THE MAN, I could have put a little more effort into my response.

Megan said...

I know some people that have some of those. I can't work on their computers. Hm, maybe that's one of the reasons they have them?

Quickroute said...

I've just spent $200 on angelkitty.jp - I have no idea what I'll get but it was worth every penny

VE said...

mj - I'm about right there with you. My mouse still has a cord on it. I tried a wireless once but they ultimately have problems.

jacki - Yeah...they're different but that doesn't mean they're better. I'll look for a mushy key one...

roy - And THE MAN will never thank you either...

megan - Good idea...individually customized keyboards. Never again have to worry about your family wanting to use your computer...

quickroute - I'm guessing business is quite good over at angelkitty...

Having a keyboard on your tummy is not quite as hot as Angel Kitty thinks it is.

VE said...

kurt - I think you're right, but who am I to convince her otherwise...

The fourth one down looks like it would be great for hiding an unwanted erection.

Chris Wood said...

Well, with twiddler in hand I ... well never mind.

Great post!

VE said...

thinkinfyou - You mean there's such a thing as an unwanted erection??? ;)

chris - You were over at Angel Kitty's site doing research, weren't you?

Please tell me the keyboard I can actually type on isn't about to become obsolete.:)

colbymarshall said...

These would confuse the hell out of me sooo much--I'd never get anything done!

VE said...

serena - Don't worry...I don't think many of these are going to catch on...

colby - Welcome to today's world. It just keeps getting more confusing...

after i demolished my wrist and elbow and whiel i was spending 6 1/2 months on occupationl therapy regaining use of that hand and arm my therapist suggested models like #1, 3, & 4 as more ergonimcally correct and something that would be much easier on my hand. (that was at a time when we really weren't sure how much use i would regain)

VE said...

lime - Wow, did they work ok?

Carla said...

That second one sure messes with the mind. And I think that round one is missing some keys. But who needs so many letters anyways.

VE said...

carla - Yeah, there were two round ones...I just didn't want to be redundant.

HUGS!

VE said...

chris - Being a wee bit drunk should have with some of these keyboards. Perhaps a way bit drunk even.

leelee - Thanks. I have to add something to these little collections of pics...

I have the best one of these there is, which isn't even on this list (although it's similar to #2):

And yes, it really is awesome.

VE said...

Ah, you have one of the "sunken" keyboard designs. I've seen these around...a friend of mine has one. You're right, I didn't feature one...I cut the amount I featured to the really weird...

Alex L said...

I think the angel kitty is the one for me...

VE said...

alex - I would have guessed that!

Anna Lefler said...

Awesome photos - I've never seen anything like those. Waah, I want a keyboard form the future!

Thanks for stopping by the 'stache contest!

FWIW, several of these were ergonomic models I tried when I had carpal tunnel about fifteen years ago. Or they are very similar to ones I tried back then. The angled split keyboard type was fairly common back when.

VE said...

anna - We all want keyboards from the future. Well, that and stock tips...

writtenwyrdd - Yes, I did see a lot of angled ones out there. I tried to narrow the post down to just a few of the more weird ones.
