I just think Smart Cars are really stupid. Not a shopping-friendly car at all.

Smart cars are only smart for single guys who live very close to work and only want to get laid by hippie girls...and really, wouldn't those guys be better off with a vespa?
Not that I have anything against hippie girls...or any other girl who might consider having sex with me.
Is there a vespa dealership in AZ?

Smart cars are cool. Who wouldn't want a car they can fold up and put in their pocket?

jacki - You need the smart trailer. You know, the one you tow behind the car that drops your MPG to 10! ha ha

iamnot - Vespa...you obviously don't live in Portland where it rains from now until July!

evil genius - Ha! The only trouble with that is that it leaves this awkward large bulge in my pants! ha ha

I'm seeing a few of those Smart Cars here in Silly Valley, but I think the owners are kind of embarrassed now that gas is back down to ~$3 a gallon. At least they're easy to hide.

I have the whole problem solved. I have become a hermit and never leave the house.

Megan said...

I would never own either of those, so I guess I'm both dumb and smart.

VE said...

roy - I'd be embarrassed to own one because they are WAY too expensive in the USA. They want 27K for these half-a-cars! I'm sure some math wiz could come up with a formula on the payoff rate for paying that much to save on gas (minus the inconveniences and risks of death should somebody hit you)

incredible woody - Is there any reason now to ever leave? You can pretty much order everything online. Real people are crazy!

Sharon said...

I have the same solution as the incredible woody.

VE said...

megan - Both dumb and smart huh... Durt?

VE said...

sharon - And I have the same answer I gave her...don't leave home. Boby Dylan not long ago wrote "People are crazy, times have changed, I'm locked in, I'm out of range. I used to care but things have changed" for a reason! Tell me he isn't relevant for the times still!

Sharon said...

Dylan knows what he's talking about!

I wish you could send me some of that rain!

The hermit idea sounds great for the winter. I have not seen too many of the 1/2 cars around here. I don't think anything will cause some Texans to give up their big trucks.

That was fun! I'd like to have a smart car just to scoot around in for kicks when I wanted and a real car for you know, driving. The state I live in is so dumb that we don't allow smart cars here. But, back home, in Texas I saw a lot of them. My persective was that they should come with a bumper sticklet that says,"I am so rich that I can afford to have a fun car to scoot around in for kicks AND a real car." But that would take up the whole bumper.

i'm pretty sure with a ramp you could drive a smart car up inside the back end of a hummer.

VE said...

sharon - Yeah, he can't sing but he sure can write 'em!

reforminggeek - That's it. We'll form a weather exchange program sort of like student exchange programs with other countries. We'll send you some rain and cooler temperatures you can send us some sunshine and warmth. You'll have to keep the tornados though and we'll keep our Earthquakes...those things aren't very tradeable

eve - Ha ha. Not much would fit on a bumber sticker for them. You'd have to use the texting language and then only teenagers would understand your message!

lime - THAT'S IT!!! ha ha From now on all cars should be some sort of transformer that you strip down for commuting trips and then reassemble for other needs. This would all have to be done automatically of course. Boy...I'm gonna have to work on this concept! ha ha

Who goes offroad in a Smart car? Most people with 4x4s don't go offroad anyway.

Sod 'em. My car is cheap to run, that means I can be a lot lazier.

= good thinking.

Merrill Guice said...

At 6'5" and 250# I would not get into a smart car, I'd just wear it.

MJ said...

Yes, mah dear. Perspective is everything. My Civic is quite smart on gas, and it's rather fun on wet dirt roads (at least once you get up to 45 mph).

VE said...

chris - Who is smart that goes off roading? Only smart people are truly lazy anyway...

merrill - Wearable automobile transportation is just around the corner. You could be ahead of your time! Just be careful where that gas hose goes...

mj - Its hard to pile a lot of bodies into the trunk though...

Kurt said...

That Smart car only gets 41 mpg on the highway. I got 38 mpg on my 1989 Honda. I'm not impressed.

Quickroute said...

What's wrong with taxis?

VE said...

kurt - That's not impressive! But it is better than the average 18 mpg SUV and minivan.

quickroute - Many places in the USA, like where I live, the taxi infrastructure just isn't there. It would cost a fortune to travel by taxi.

Quickroute said...

Sorry - I meant carjacking - In Ireland taxis = carjacking

Carla said...

Perspective is everything.

VE said...

quickroute - Ahhhh. Carjacking. A wonderful career! ha ha

carla - So true.

colbymarshall said...

The smartcar looks like that little car I had when I was three, only I used my feet to pedal it.

Alex L said...

Seriously what is the other set of wheels on that hummer for. Thats going to remove any offroad functionality...

bitchlet said...

I say public transport.

K Trainor said...

Egads! Those are both-ends-of-the-spectrum nasty! Although I may have to agree with the rain analogy...

ChrisEldin said...

That little one isn't a car. It's a fancy sled.
;-)

VE said...

colby - Well you must have been really smart when you were 3! ha ha

alex - The chicks dig 'em!

bitchlet - The problem is that the public uses it!

k trainer - I wouldn't want you to agree with me on something here though!

chris - Ha ha. Yes...sleds are getting more fancy over time. They're just not getting any better!

Sornie said...

A very wise post. What have you done with VE?

Sarah said...

haha yes it really is all about perspective isn't it?

VE said...

sornie - You never know about VE. Just when you think he's consistently foolish...BAM!

sarah - But regardless of perspectives, it's a universal fact that I don't know what I'm talking about!

padraig said...

Actually, the dual-axle Hummer might not be so grand offroad... and even if it is, you can probably haul the smart car out of a deep mud puddle by hand with a rope, whereas the Hummer is going to need a pretty high-torque winch (and something to connect the cable to on the other end).

leelee said...

wow...it really IS how one looks at things...

HUGS!

Maureen said...

Yeah, I'd love to see those Smart Cars try to take a snowbank up here. In fact, some of our snowbanks would be difficult for even that Hummer to tackle. The Smart Car couldn't handle a small flurry...

VE said...

padraig - Good point, I always buy my cars exclusively on their ability to be winched...

leelee - And you know I'll be looking at them differently

muareen - They'd be under the snow for 9 months! ha ha
