Kid's Cereals Are Out of Control

It’s no secret that I like kid’s cereal. A lot! But I’m old school about it. My tastes haven’t changed from childhood.

Cocoa Puffs? That’s right Mr. President, not only have I puffed them, but I’ve eaten them and drank the delicious chocolaty milk straight from the bowl afterwards. Mmmm.

Frosted Flakes? Hey, Tom Frost, Robert Frost, Frosty the Snowman. It matters to me not. Bring ‘em on Tony the Tiger!!!

Fruit Loops? I can eat them in a cup, I can eat them up, up, up. I do like them and I don’t give a damn. I eat Fruit Loops, VE I am!

Yeah, the list goes on. But then we get to more recent offerings like Cookie Crisp. And ones that taste like a cinnamon roll. VE will not move on to these obvious over-achiever cereals. How can they be part of a balanced breakfast?

Next thing you know…they’ll be offering this:

I know, I’m a cereal bigot…and two-faced at that. But I blame my childhood and TV and the phone company (thought I’d just throw that in…)

Hey, I've got Twinkies on my blog today too. But the gay men kind.

VE said...

prefers - They can both be excellent hostess...

ReformingGeek said...

Um, VE....you feeling OK? I sense a gay theme here: Puffs, Fruits, Flakes (with a stretch), and Twinkies.

I think I was deprived as a child. I think we could eat the Peanut-Butter sweet cereal but everything else was forbidden. Whatever.

i like reforming geeks comment, I can't be expected to follow a comment like that one. It's too early to be witty.

Twinkios? hee hee

How about some DingDong-ohs! Or Pop-Tart-oh's.

Oh you got my mind going now VE! This was better than my morning shot of DDP. (Diet Dr. Pepper)

There were no sugary cereals allowed in our house, but once, there was a sale on Klondike Pete's Crunchy Nuggets (19 cents a box), so we took our allowance and bought five boxes each.

You notice how Life gave up on that whole "we suck but we're healthy" thing with Mikey? Now there's all kinds of sugar-coated yummy types of Life cereal.

Phfrankie Bondo said...

...remember the politically incorrect Rice Krinkles?...

The Incredible Woody said...

My all time favorite is Lucky Charms. They're magically delicious!!

VE said...

reforminggeek - Ha! Good catch. I have no idea how that happened. Not that there's anything wrong with it...

dee - Nor can I! I post 'em, she catches 'em...

quirkyloon - I just dunk my Pop Tarts into the chocolaty bowl of cereal. Mmmmmm....

kurt - Same here, none allowed. I see you rebelled too...

roy - Ha! I did notice that. Now the have Cinammon Life, Sryup Coated Life, Alcohol-Filled Chocoalate Treats Life.... Poor Mikey is probably in one of those drive it carts at the supermarket.

phfrankie - Ha! I do. I'd forgotten about that...good one.

VE said...

incredible woody - At my house they magically disappear too!

personally, i am a big fan of a soggy bowl of half frankenberry/half count chocula. mmmmmmmmm

i'm not crazy about twinkies in general, twinkie cereal wouldn't do it for me. but tasty cake cereal...hhmmm......maybe.

Kanrei said...

The cookies and the buns are awesome, but as a snack and not breakfast. I cannot remember the last time I had ceral in a bowl with milk, but I can remember the last time I had ceral- last week! Sugar Corn Pops!

Jacki said...

I too LOVE kids cereal. Lucky Charms and Fruity Pebbles especially.

Peter would probably eat the Twinkios. I don't allow much junk food in the house, so when some does sneak in he eats it rather quickly. :-)

MJ said...

I was flipping channels one day and got caught on the Food Network watching a show about this restaurant that sells nothing but cereal.

You could mix different types and add everything from granola to pop rocks...

leelee said...

CAP'N CRUNCH!! Original, sugary sweet...da bomb!

ARGH!

hugs!!

leelee said...

I demand a recount in your blog roll! I demand it..damn it!

hugs!

Megan said...

I am all about the Cookie Crisp.

Cookies? For breakfast??

Ha - reminds me of the Cosby bit when he talks about giving his kids the chocolate cake for breakfast...

Elizabeth said...

Too funny! This reminded me that my brother would always eat this Star Wars cereal called C-3PO's.

Bazza said...

I don't do cereals (kids or otherwise) A nice piece of toast with pink grapefruit marmalade, just the ticket.

Mrs. R said...

See, and I just gave up the surgary cereal a long time ago and now just go straight for the candy at breakfast. It just saves time.

leelee said...

lol..w/ Mrs. R

Gladys said...

What about Count Chocula? And Frankeberry? What about the Trix Rabbit? You left out that sweet sugary fruity goodness. Now THAT is a healthy breakfast. A big bowl of Trix and a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast with a Frosted Cherry Poptart! Yeah Buddy! Diabetes for breakfast!

Jaime said...

I'm partial to honey nut cheerios. But twinkios? You're probably not that far off unfortunately. I bet we see something like that soon.

Giggle Pixie said...

I'm a huge cereal fan as well. I'm cookoo for Cocoa Puffs! :-) I also eat tons of Life (the cereal Mikey likes!).

I'm not a huge Twinkie fan, but Ding-Dong O's would be a nice addition!

Memarie Lane said...

My favorites are Lucky Charms and Cap'n Crunch, minus the Crunchberries. I hate Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cookie Crisp! Blech! You know what would be good Krispy Kreme O's. Or maybe Baskin Robbin's 31 Flavors (Ew I just got Rum Raisin!) or Bertie Bott's Every Flavor.

Thinkinfyou said...

I loved Count Chocula,Frankenberry, and Boo Berry. I don't even know if they still make them anymore.

Memarie Lane said...

I think I'll change my name to AAA Memarie Lane so I can be at the top of your blogroll. :)

padraig said...

You know what needs to be made? Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs.

VE said...

lime - Frankenbury/Count Chocula...yum!

kan - Sugar corn pops? ha ha. Good one. Does your mother know?!!!

jacki - I wouldn't eat the Twinkios but I'm like Peter, any cereal that makes it into the house would be gone! And I'd be somewhere trying not to explode...

mj - The question one must consider is whether Pop rocks really qualify as "food"...

leelee - Yum. I love when they start to get a little bit saturated but hate when they implode from saturation... Oh, and I fixed your blog roll count. Sorry about that...I don't know what happened. It'll get easier when I move to a weekly update of it...much cleaner then.

elizabeth - I have a box of those. Actually, I have a box of every ridiculous trendy cereal box they've come out with since 1990. I'll give to my kids and they can make a fortune on ebay some day...

bazza - Your country was wise not to adopt this sugar cereal concept. But then again you went and called fries...chips! Uggh!

mrs. r - Better yet, just throw the Snickers bars right into that sugar cereal!

gladys - I always opted for Fruit Loops over Trix. But I can eat both if the need was there. The others, well, I didn't want to go on and on or I'd have added Super Sugar Smacks (or honey as their now called...yeah, right)

jaime - I get the honey nut cheerios into the house without them classified as a "sugar" cereal. Woohoo...under the radar.

giggle - Coco Puffs are the end all be all!!!!

marie - Me too...I like them without the Crunchberries. How silly...just because they aren't REAL berries...

thinkinfyou - Boo berry...forgot about that one. Did you try Crab Apple? Ha...just made that one up...

marie - Well try using MY blog name...

padraig - I'd be first in line for THOSE! Nice one...remember me when you're rich...

VE said...

megan - You were forgotten in my reply...sorry. No, no, I cannot do cookie crisp. THat is going too far!!!! I could eat chocolate chip cookies in lieu of cereal for breakfast of course...

Carla said...

Twinkios? Ya right. That'll be the day.

The Self-Deprechaun said...

That sounds delicious although I would think they get soggy with milk. Why not just dollop some crisco in a bowl and immerse in milk. I think it's the same caloric wise. mmm mmm good!

Serena said...

There's a time and a place for Twinkies, and breakfast ain't it. I do admit to a bit of a fondness for Lucky Charms, though.

Memarie Lane said...

You know what would be really good? If you could just buy the Lucky Charms marshmallows with all that cereal nonsense interfering.

Uncivil said...

Hmmmmm......How about "Serial" the Cereal Killer's choice!

Starrlight said...

I will own up to an undying love of Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries. God I love those.

Annie Ha said...

I always liked Trix, too.
(There, now I've got 4.)

BlondeBlogger said...

Ha! SO true! I think that's just about the only one that hasn't been done yet.

Alex L said...

I have to say, twinkies just make me cringe, the very thought of them.

VE said...

carla - Never underestimate America...

self-deprechaun - I just poor milk into a lard bucket and get a big ladel spoon....mmmmm!

serena - Yes...they're magically delicious, aren't they?

marie - Yes...everyone picks out the marshmallows first and is then left with the less appealing cereal. Damn.

uncivil - You could have the Dahmer version with fingers and toes...

starrlight - Yes...I see all the confessions are coming out today! ha ha

annie ha - Silly annie, trix are for kids...like me...

blondeblogger - Well, until now.

alex - Remember...that's a good thing...

When all that fails blame the government. That seems to work for most. Maybe they need to regulate cereal. Can you just see that?
" I was just appointed head of the Cereal Regulation Department, yes I will be working closely with the president"

yellojkt said...

Balanced breakfast if you're Michael Phelps.

VE said...

bonnie - Cool. Then, I could get free samples! I wonder if I could work from home...

yellojkt - Ha! Yes, he could probably eat the box without incident.

Janna said...

Wow, I haven't had Twinkies in forever.
Now I want one.
Thanks in advance for the 20 pounds I'm going to gain. :o

I am Arizona; a person, not a place. said...

Lucky Charms are my favorite... cereals are really desserts. Balanced desserts. Now I really want a bowl of Lucky CHarms with a Twinkie on top. Instead of milk I'll use coffee. And then I'll lay around in a sugar-induced coma all afternoon...

VE said...

janna - If you run 15 miles to buy one and then 15 miles back...you'll break even.

arizona - Sounds just about right for a stormy January Saturday. The hubby can do everything else...

unfinishedrambler said...

How about Ho Ho O's?

VE said...

unfinishedrambler - And have a picture of Santa eating them? Nice!

Practically Joe said...

Why can't someone come out with a "bacon" cereal.
I love bacon in the morning.

VE said...

joe - You're a genius! Bacon Bits...they're like Alhpa Bits but without all that spelling...

Cookie Crisps is good, but then a real chocolate chip cookie is even better, which reminds me I need some energy to keep this up. I must be on here pretty soon, at least somewhere soon.

#7 I hope.

God bless.
