Photos I don't Get

Hey thanks everyone for all the support from my review on Sunday. I had commented back to every single one of them and now I don't see that effort at all in the comments. Gobbled up by blogger some how. Too much energy to redo. All of what they said, which some of it wasn't bad, I can take because I asked for it. But the comments directed to my readers, those were low blows and they crossed the line. But I say "Fuck 'em!", to use their language. I am going to try to mix in some personal stuff here once in awhile. It might take a few days to work it in; I've been pretty busy over the last few days and mostly drawing from a surge of creativity awhile back when I wrote a dozen posts in one day. Some days are like that, some are not.

Now that it is Monday, here is the funny...

This is the Eiger. It’s the tallest mountain in the world in case you were carving people’s anatomy into your school desk during that lesson. I found this on one of the most emailed photos of the day. I have no idea why people felt compelled to email it. It’s time lapse so you get that “were in Dorothy’s tornado” look to the sky. Ok, it’s kind of cool looking.

But what I noticed first about it was the fence. Fences are mostly designed to keep people out of somewhere. Now why would somebody put a fence here? Are they trying to keep somebody out of their particular snow patch? At 17,000 feet? Who on Earth would be trespassing there anyway? Is the Dali Llama doing some extreme snow mobile riding? I just don’t get it.

This is one of those pictures that you have to read what the hell is going on. Because otherwise it kind of FREAKS YOU OUT! Seriously, if a crowd of Obama face wearing people with globes came walking toward me I’d definitely turn around and start running. Run away! Run away.

What’s with the globes anyway? Is this a push for more stringent geography studies in the school? Is it symbolism that they’re going to take over the world? Couldn't they just bring a map…it’s lighter and more compact! Apparently it was a march in India to celebrate. Celebration is fine but don’t scare us like that. Even Ghandi would have crapped upon being greeted by these…and he didn’t have a lot of food in him to make one!!!

Dali Lama snow jet skiing?

HA! That is funny. Thanks again to VE for offering a "legitimate" explanation for the 17,000 foot fence above the sea!

Oh and didn't you hear? We are an Obama nation.

heh heh

VE said...

quirky - Ha! And to prove to you just how little I get out lately...that is the very first time I've heard that joke!

Chris Wood said...

The marching Obamas are like something from Dr Who, or Being John Malkovich. Very unsettling if you don't expect it, and who would?

Carla said...

Yes to "I don't get it," and yes to "would freak me out." And those hand soaps on your sidebar...CREEPY!

lime said...

well a reviewer's opinion is just that...their opinion. i guess when you do what they do and thus wade through endless blogs it gets old fast, but they why do it. whatever.

i will say this. i'd love some more of "you." i'd enjoy reading the personal stories.

the army of obama's....disturbing.

VE said...

chris - Yeah, not something you'd want to see looking out of your peep hole front door...

carla - It's all freaky today I guess.

lime - I'm working on the personal pieces...

That first picture looks exactly like where I live. Except we have more snow :(

Jacki said...

Uhhh...those are pretty white looking Obamas if you ask me.....

Megan said...

That's not just a fence. It's made out of the skeletons of the climbers who failed...

VE said...

elizabeth - Sorry about that. I've been to Nome...but not in the winter. And did you know that two hours away in Crater Lake, Oregon they get over 800 inches of snow every year and the snow is there for 9/10 months of the year. Most snow in the world...

jacki - Well in India they think he is pretty white...

VE said...

megan - Having grown up around mountain climbing...you might just be right! But the sadder reality is that those that have failed are still up there. Sometimes other climbers walk right by their frozen bodies. Sad...

That picture of the Obama heads is the stuff nightmares are made of! haha!

Today, Fantastical Nonsense. Tomorrow, $10 globes!

The Incredible Woody said...

Don't you just love a parade??

Sarah said...

I am going to remember the Eiger in case I ever go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
:)
And yes apparently I was carving I heart so and so into a desk when we learned that!

ReformingGeek said...

I'm getting a little confused. Obama is just a person, right? That parade is very weird.

Megan said...

Now I feel like a heel.

VE said...

giggle pixie - Hopefully you don't have obama nightmares as a result. Try to think of the hand soap instead...that should help.

roy - $10 globes? You mean I can see the world for only $10? Wow!

incredible woody - It's a chance to say "let's do what nobody in their right mind would think or do"

sarah - You can always use me on the call a friend if you forget!

reforminggeek - It looks like our version of the clone wars...

megan - Don't worry...I'm the king of throwing comedy at something that might be a little more sensative. I appreciated the humor in it still. I just shared that because I don't think most people realize that goes on.

Quickroute said...

first Eminem did the clone thing at the mtv movie awards now Obama clones - scarey!

The fence is not to keep someone out, it is to keep the Yeti in.

padraig said...

Wait... the Eiger isn't the tallest mountain in the world.

It's not even close; 3,970 meters, or less than half of the height of the top ten, which are all over 8,000.

(this is height as in "altitude above sea level", as opposed to height as in "relative to the base of the mountain", in which case Mauna Kea is #1, or "relative to the center of the earth", in which case Chimborazo is number one).

@ Megan

212 people died climbing Everest between 1921 and 2006; at least 40 of the bodies (probably more) are still up there. Everest isn't even the deadliest mountain, relatively speaking.

Next time Kitty's cousin Dave is in town I'll let you know when he's coming over for dinner, and you can sit there and listen to him talk about climbing Everest and Denali, it's pretty amazing.

VE the fence isn't to keep people OUT it's to keep the Yetti IN.

See that second picture is why I run screaming from the room when the president comes on television. I'm not just talking about Bush or Obama I've been like that since I was a wee child. Back before cable TV and Dish network when you could turn the channel and watch monkeys making whoopie. (I love National Geographic Channel)

Jaime said...

a mob of marching obamas holding globes? scary. completely nonsensical. and somehow i have the strangest feeling that will work its way into a nightmare tonight

VE said...

quickroute - It's the clone wars all over again. Right, right now in a galaxy right, right here....

mj - Somehow I don't think any fence would keep a Yeti in if it didn't want to be...

padraig - Ha! I KNEW there'd be one person to bring up the old "how you view it". The Eiger is truly at the roof of the world though...you cannot get higher on solid land. Of course K2 is nearly as tall and much, much more deadly. And death tolls are relative to population. Heck, Mt. Hood here in Portland has killed more than most expedition level mountains and Mt. Fuji probably has the highest death toll even though it isn't a very difficult mountain.

gladys - Monkeys making whoopie beats most TV shows out there today and all reality shows...

jaime - Of course the fact that it is completely nonsensical is why it is here...

nursemyra said...

Eiger doesn't make the grade of you use the "prominence" method.

But who am i to argue with VE?

:-)

Jeff said...

That's odd, I thought they were Schwarzneggers - which of course makes waaay more sense.

VE said...

nursemyra - Ha ha. Prominence method. Ok, fair. We should have a symetrical one too, huh?

jeff - Ha! Now that does make sense...

Of course, stats for these sorts of things can be interpreted all sorts of ways, and it's not really clear that this list isn't gamed to a degree. Here's another:

http://matadortrips.com/11-most-dangerous-mountains-in-the-world-for-climbers/

I'm still not buying that the Eiger can be considered the tallest mountain by any measure, though; it's not even the tallest mountain in the Alps (that's Jungfruitch)...

That's an Obama for each country out there. If all of them are looking for change in their respective areas, does it in some way go back to the status quo and no change at all?

The paper masks are creepy! To those who prefer to hide their heads in the sand and ignore what is going on in the world. It doesn't stop the world from crashing down around their ears. They just won't be prepared, or be able to carry on an intelligent conversation.

Alex L said...

Sweet Jesus the Obamas are marching upon us, THEY WILL CRUSH THE WORLD!

Janna said...

I musta been doing the whole "scratching anatomy into desks" thing during geography/geology class.
I always thought the highest mountain was Everest.
I'd still bet a few toes that it really is Everest.

Try not to stare if I start walking funny.

Kurt said...

You're still posting?

Anne said...

I have no idea.

VE said...

Man...something weird is going on. I responded to all of these and even saw them saved. Now they're gone. Ugggh...

Dee said...

the second photo was my nightmare come true.

(*gasp*)
Heeeyyyy!
I've commented on every post!
Yet you have me down for only 28 instead of 29.

I demand a recount. :)

Or at least show me the post I didn't comment on.
I really swear I've done all of them so far this year...

(I know, I know, there are people starving in Africa, homes burning in Australia, and STD's getting passed around in Hollywood, but still. That extra 10 cents is important! :)

Plus, my entire sense of self-worth is caught in the goal of being at the top of your list by the time December hits.

I am Arizona; a person, not a place. said...

The Obama/globe photo is definitely freaky. Actually, those face masks look like a newscaster on CNN....

VE said...

uncivil - Now how did I know you'd go there! ha ha

beth - Because they're nonsensical tinted glasses!

serena - At first I thought so too but zombies can never seem to get into rank and file order. They're so bitter as zombies to do that...

padraig - I'm not listening, I'm not listening... ;)

self-deprechaun - No, it means we'll be doing back to the medieval ages...

bonnie - I tried hiding my head in the sand. It was too sandy...

alex - You have more time...it's too hot in Australia right now to crush...

janna - Just don't lose the big toes; they help us balance...

kurt - It's like a nightmare, isn't it? It just keeps going and going...

anne - Exactly how I felt. I had a lot of opinions and questions...as usual

dee - Did they all pull off their masks to find out they all were Obamas in real too?

janna - I have done a recount and you are fixed.

arizona - Well that is just as scary then

Sunshine said...

The Obama masks with the globes is freaky. Like something out of a Stephen King movie.

Janna said...

Awww. Thank you. :)
Thank you for the recount.
Sorry if I panicked.

I'll go back to worrying about the starving people and the fires and the STD's.

:)

VE said...

sunshine - Exactly what I was thinking when I saw it. Hey, you got a new avatar pic!

janna - No worries! It was my mistake...

colbymarshall said...

Ok, the Obama face people are the reason that some people are scared of Obama. B/c it's not HIM that's doing teh crazy stuff, but it freaks people out. I voted for him and it evenm freaks me out a little.

VE said...

colby - Had it been Bush instead it would have been lethal in terms of scary.

unfinishedrambler said...

Holy crap, I'm waaaaay behind on commenting on blogs, but must say: Obamas with globe represents the one world order. At least, for those who are Christian fundamentalists. That would be my guess.

VE said...

unfinishedrambler - Don't think there are a lot of Christian Fundamentalists in India. That's where the picture is from.
