Where on Earth is VE's Thumb Now???

I know…the title drew you in today and you thought the worst! Fear not, dear blogger.

Today is Theme Thursday again. This week it is EARTH. I thought that the perfect opportunity to provide you with another edition of “Where in the Hell is VE’s Thumb?” (trade mark pending) but since it is an Earth theme, we'll change the title slightly.

Over the years VE has been many places and his thumb always goes with him. The only problem is that it always gets in the way of all his stellar scenic shots too. Why he’d be the next Ansel Adams were it not for his wayward camera-hogging thumb.

Your job is to identify the eight places on Earth his thumb is at (hint, they are all in the USA this time)…

Fantastical nonsense indeed. Although I smell a rat!Nice photoshopping I recognise the volcanic plug that they used in Close Encounters? Nah I did recognise most even thought I've never been anywhere but LA! Noice take on a touchy theme.

Mrsupole said...

Well is it Times Square, the Vegas Strip, not sure about the hill but must be in one of our national parks, maybe the Grand Canyon, Old Faithful, Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street, the Transameria building in SF, and the St. Louis Arch.

Thanks for making my brain work so hard. Only for you.

God bless.

Jaime said...

NY and Vegas were easy. for the rest, you're making my brain work way too hard, way too early.

Jacki said...

Whew...I for one am SO glad you didn't have your thumb up your ass. That would not have been a pretty picture.

Two more days! Hadn't realized how much crap we have accumulated in two years. So far Peter has only complained about the number of books I have. He hasn't gotten to all the boxes and bags of kitchen items I have packed...hehe.

lime said...

i am just imagining the manual contortions necessary for that finger on the lens to be your thumb. it strains credulity. whereas everything else you've ever posted here is completely reality based.

subtorp77 said...

Fundamental, backing you up on these ,'cept that does look like the French Quarter in N.O.

VE, you weren't calling for specifics, right?

Liza said...

Love it! Does he have frequent flyer miles or does he pair up with his buddies for a five finger discount.

Candie Bracci said...

LOL,great and funny post VE!
I'm not really good at it.But definitely N.Y. in it,no?

Perpetual Chocoholic said...

I saw a few I recognised before I cheated and went up to Jelly's list to see which I got right.

Matt-Man said...

HA. I don't care where your thumb is. It's a frickin' funny concept. Cheers!!

VE said...

ronda - Nice... You got seven out of eight (no Grand Thumyon) but given that you incorporated the word thumb into each and every one you are indeed a winner. The gnomes give you a thumbs up (I just won't mention where...)

fundamental jelly - You sir, are correct! Ding, ding, ding (that's prize money spewing from somewhere for you). Be sure to stop by the IRS office with all that cash on the way out...

baino - Well, you got me there! I thought the premise was funny; it was originally a joke off of the "where the hell is Matt" videos of the guy that travelled around and danced his goofy dance and then assembled them all together with some music. It was a YouTube phenomenom and is still one of the most watched ever. My thumb...only slightly less so of course.

mrsupole - You did very well. The Bryce Canyon one was tricky. A lot of people think the Grand Canyon on that one. Alas...my thumb had to end the journey in Vegas because what happens in Vegas STAYS in vegas. I'm going to miss having opposable thumbs...

jaime - When in doubt, always round up to the answer. In this case...just go with Earth!

jacki - Although there were probably many in my useless career that thought that I had my thumb there, thankfully that wasn't where we were going in this post! No only wouldn't it have been a pretty picture; it doesn't sound very comfortable and I don't believe it is very sanitary either! Have you moved your shoes yet? That will probably take Peter a week... ;)

lime - You crack me up. Only you would determine the reality that getting a thumb in front of the lense of a camera would require one of those circus freak acts nobody should try. Excellent. I shall sing "Michelle" by the Bealtes for you now... ;)

subtorp77 - Well of course I was! Nice specificity there. Now I want to know WHAT street in San Francisco. Which taxi hit me while standing in the middle of Times Square, how many hookers got in my shot in Vegas. The usual...

Liza - He has his own frequent flyer miles. Unfortunately he's still in Vegas because what happens in Vegas STAYS in Vegas. I'll miss him but I'm glad to take his frequent flyer miles.

candie - NY is definitely in there. And for many, that is all that is important!

perpetual chocoholic - That Fundamental Jelly. He made your day so much easier! You recognized Fargo, ND didn't you? THE hot spot of America...

matt-man - Ha! I knew you wouldn't have any thumb concerns and would appreciate the unsubtle concept of the humor here...

ReformingGeek said...

You sure are consistent, VE. A thumb in every shot. Is that like a prize in every box?

I got the National Parks without much effort but the cities threw me. I should have known Vegas and Nahlearns.

Ha! I wrote Vegan before I caught my error. I'm not sure what that means.

VE said...

reforminggeek - Vegan? They'll boot you out of Texas for that slip, girl! You redeemed yourself with the pronunciation of New Orleans though. And the prize in every box? No, more like a stain on every shirt...

Gladys said...

Since I live close to Hollywood in my real life and I know all about the studios I'm going to guess they were all taken in Toronto.

VE said...

gladys - Well I have been to Toronto several times, alas, no, they were all taken with a camera! ha!

Nessa said...

I thought maybe you worked for a pizza place or something.

Jeff said...

Cool! I've been to 6 of those 8 places. How do you manage to get your thumb on the lens like that? Are you double-jointed?

Wings said...

That is one busy thumb! Great post!!!

Anonymous said...

Great Post!!

VE said...

nessa - A meaty pizza at that!

jeff - Let's see, I'm going to guess you haven't been to Bryce canyon or New Orleans. And leave it to you and lime to be anal enough to wonder how a thumb could obscure a camera lense...

wing - My thumb gets around...

VE said...

anon - Thanks and welcome...

The Incredible Woody said...

For me, it's my pinky finger that gets in the way. Should I have it amputated? Surely I could live without a pinky finger.

Quirkyloon said...

VE! You better worry now Dude. "They" have a perfect shot of your thumbprint! Who knows where your thumb will turn up next.

Can you say conspiracy?

How about zombies?

heh heh

Cool and fun post VE!

On your hand, on your hand, on your hand, on your hand, on your hand, on your hand, on your hand, and on your hand.

Leah said...

Hilarious! I have to admit, the only one I recognized immediately was number 1, and that's only because I live there...I think I'm getting too provincial...

Elizabeth said...

Ha! I love it! I thought the Las Vegas picture was Seattle. I've got to get out more!

California Girl said...

Kurt's answer is the funniest.

Love the photoshop creativity.

Is the Devil's Postpile real? I thought it was made up for Close Encounters and this is the second time in 12 hours I've referenced that movie!

MJ said...

I got New York, San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone, but beyond that, meh... Hey, I tried.

The Clever Pup said...

Too bad I was late coming over here. I love a challenge. I haven't been to none of them yet - but I have been to Toronto

moooooog35 said...

Unless all the answers are 'the mall,' I got nothing.

I don't get out much.

Auntie, aka Dog Girl said...

Dude,
How do we know that's REALLY your thumb?
How do we know that's not your... HEAD????
hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

unfinishedrambler said...

I just thought you had your thumb up your butt as usual (don't ask me why I clicked - ewww -- I guess I hoped it would be one of your magical Photoshopped creations, maybe a gnome with it thumb up its butt instead). ;) <-- Notice: Emoticon. I love your blog, where you put your thumb is your business.

But I was glad to see it traveled a few other places I didn't expect. I probably would have gotten most except Bryce Canyon.

VE said...

incredible woody - Given that I had to leave my thumb in Vegas I would think your pinky would give my thumb some good company.

quirky - Ssssh...don't tell anyone but I stole the thumb print off the internet too. Photoshop...the ultimate crime coverup...

kurt - Nice try, nice try, nice try, nice try, nice try, nice try, nice try, nice try! Actually, detachable thumbs are all the rage this year so my thumb tends to go where it wants to on occasion.

leah - That seems to happen with NY a lot. Other places...people can't wait to get out of...

elizabeth - I've had a couple of friends that told me that too. Yes, I do have friends! Don't roll your eyes...

california girl - That mean's that aliens are obviously calling you. You need to abandon your life as you know it and make a pilgramige to Devils Tower right away! Yes, it is a real rock and I have been there. I even have friends that have rock climbed it to the top!

mj - A worthy effort. I must tell you Grand Canyon was wrong though. I just like to tell people they're wrong. I should be in customer service!!!

clever pup - Interesting that you haven't been to any of them. I thought everybody went to Las Vegas to behave badly...

moooooog35 - Apparently so. My thumb hates the mall personally...nothing ever fits it there...

auntie - Which head? Hahahahahaaa

VE said...

unfinished rambler - Like I said, I'm sure it worried and fascinated most people to know what VE would do with such a title. Always stay unpredictable...that's my motto!

leelee said...

Thats great...

Lets see:

~Times Square
~Las Vegas
~The Mashed Potato mountain from Close Encounters
~Grand Canyon?
~Old Faithful
~Mardi Gras on Bourbon St
~San Francisco
~St Louis

That was fun!

HUGS!

Mama Zen said...

This is hilarious!

willow said...

Looks like I'm checking in late, but did get a good chuckle! So, your thumb is always in the vacation pics?

Tom said...

Those were almost some good pictures...you and your thumb certainly get around.

VE said...

leelee - There you are! :) Nice try on the mashed pototo answer. Were that true I'd be on the set with it still on the table. No, the correct answer for all the enchilladas would have been Devils Tower, South Dakota. But I am happy to see you nailed the one right down to Bourbon St. It was difficult too, for there are so many cities and streets with elbow to elbow drunkeness laying siege to the neighborhood...

mama zen - Thanks. That's all I do around here. Mission complete.

willow - Yeah, damn thumb, it's all about him...

tom - And I usually prefer us to get around to the same places at the same time. It's much more convenient that way...

Brian Miller said...

LOL. sure you have an answer by now, but my how your thumb gets around.

VE said...

brian - Not to imply it is loose by any means....

Dakota Bear said...

Didn't know Bryce, Vegas, Bourbon Street or Devil's Tower.

Nice post, keep on traveling.

VE said...

dakota - Oh, I'll definitely travel for the rest of my life. There are too many wonderful places to see!

leelee said...

I'm never too far away VE...

awwwww....not the mashed potato tower...similar shape though no?

HUGS!!

VE said...

leelee - You get a close...but no cigar! :)

Starrlight said...

Gosh you stole my mother's photo album didn't you? Her two big skills....the thumb and taking a picture of us when we are putting forks in our mouths. Niiiiice.

Kris said...

There are a couple of dreadful answers that I won't say in the interest of decorum.

VE said...

starrlight - Ha! THAT's what mothers are for!

Kris - And we thank you for that just as everyone has thanked me for not going there either...

Serena said...

I can figure out a few of the places your thumb has been. But more importantly, the thumb in the pix looks kind of like an alien invasion. Scary!

yellojkt said...

Let's see:

Been there (a lot)
Been there
Seen the movie
Is the Grand Canyon close enough?
Wanna go there
Been there but don't remember
Was there just recentlyBeen all the way to the topYour thumb and I have a lot in common.

gab said...

ahhh unfortunally for me I only know yellowstone and devils tower. Been there personally. Other spots look familiar through pics Ive seen but not sure where or names:-(
Sorry been away so long have some health issues as you might see if you read my blog(lol just had to say that)

Bunk Strutts said...

Kurt beat me to it. He got all of them right.

I also notice that the thumb color appears to be one that has been manipulating Cheetohs, in a bag, beyond camera range.

Nasty nick on the lower left; doesn't look like it's healing. You oughtta mention it next time you're axed to pee in a cup.

Janna said...

Somewhere out there is a lurker who is duplicating your fingerprint patterns and stealing your identity even as we speak.

Their "VE fingerprint gloves" are almost ready.

They'll be all thumbs, but what the heck.

Jewelry stores, here I come!

Er, I mean... here THEY come.
Yeah... that's what I meant to say.
They.

Cuppa Jo said...

That thumb needs a sedative so it will fall asleep, and outta the way, when you take photos. Otherwise great photos of Earth.

VE said...

serena - Did you ever consider that might be a good thing! If they have the intelligence to get here perhaps they have the intelligence to fix the economy

yellojkt - I like your comparison in SF! You have been around...

gab - Well I'm glad someone else has been to Devils Tower other than watching it in the movie...

bunk - Don't got with Kurt's answers...he got them all wrong thanks to my detachable thumb! But now Cheetoh's residue...perhaps, it's not easy being cheesy.

janna - I hope they try. I stole the fingerprint off the net and photoshopped it in! I no dummy...

cuppa jo - Can I some of that sedative too?

mouse (aka kimy) said...

another ve bit of hilarity!!

thank goodness that is not your thumb I was getting worried of a frame!

VE said...

mouse - Me too. I obviously suspected the gnomes right away. They hate me for that habit...

Maureen said...

The only one I didn't get was 6....

BTW, you need a manicure. And hand lotion.

And a smaller thumb.

Quickroute said...

I am afraid to go to any of those places with a giant thumb hanging around!
