Swing on...

Today’s Theme Thursday is SWING. What am I going to cover for that? No not Wayne’s World’s "schwing". No not sex addicted swinger couples. No not that lively dancing stuff. Simply the swing set.

Boring, right? Come on now…is VE going to really put you asleep? Of course not! There are plenty of interesting swings out there to amuse you. And you know that if there are ridiculous swings out there...the gnomes will hunt them down and find 'em.

Here’s one you can make out of all that construction pipe down the road…they won't need it all to build that house...

Need a hammock and a swing? Now you can have both and experience that feeling of helplessness all over again when you create this…

And while a simple swing might be boring, all you have to do it simply find something more boring and suddenly that swing looks mighty appealing. Take waiting for the bus as an example…

Too baby for your testosterone? Watched too many Road Warrior/Terminator/Alien action movies to make swinging interesting for you? Then head on down to New Zealand and partake in their bungee swing. You free fall for about 200 feet and then end up in a huge arcing swing. You won’t even know you’re swinging until you’ve finished crapping your pants…

I know what you’re saying. You’re saying, “Sure, VE, I like the heights but crapping my pants doesn’t sound good. Particularly since I go commando." Well, you’re in luck. VE has just the solution for you. Grab a plane to China (just avoid the Brazil to France route) and we’ll hook you up on this 700 foot radio tower with a swing on it. Because all radio towers should have swings.

Now in reality, swinging doesn’t mean you have to have something suspended above you. You might have something below you controlling a swing motion. There are many ways to look at the concept. Think outside the toaster.

And finally…my kids got to ride on their uncle’s swing. He found a place in the woods and suspended a really long rope from this huge tree and then built a launching platform so you can fly across this little mini canyon and com back just above the ground so you can get off easy. Here are a couple of pics from doing it…

Shootsky. I was just here reading Blog Spoof post, got back to my site and this was up. But I came back...just for you. Those certainly some interesting and unusual swings. The UNCLE SWING looks awesome.

Uhh, about those pole swings...uh, where does the pole insert on the human END?

A 700 foot swing sounds a LITTLE bit much ... but the rest sounds great.

Holy Crap, Batman! Some of those swings are very scary.

I had a female co-worker once who went from prude to performer in the blink of an eye. She would tell stories of meeting men online and bringing them home to "see" her special swing.

PS: I am searching for a special song for you.

I remember back when I was a kid and we'd have contests on the playground to see who could jump farther out of the swings. That quickly ended after one dude broke an arm and busted his head open and another dude broke has ankle. What a bunch of idiots we were. Sorry, I just totally went on my own little swing tangent there.

I dig the swing at the bus stop. Such a simple, yet clever idea. Cheers!!

dude the second one looks like a cross between a swing and trampoline...could be fun. swing at the bus stop...i see a few fights coming on.

even @ my age I love swings.....on the ground! you will not find me up high dropping or gliding to the ground. Just an every day swing n Im happy!!!!
But all the swings look cool. Thanks for the pics who would have thought an ordinary swing could be so interesting.

From the perspective of my teen/twenty-something self some of those "swings" look appealing.
Now – not so much. More nausea and fear inducing. I have become a wimp.

Rumor has it that you like going forwards AND backwards.

Yes...VE swings both ways.

Thank you! Thank you! I'm here all week!

Tom said...

that's how public transportation can get more riders!

Anne said...

When I was a kid, I would have been too chicken to swing on that last one. Now I'm too wide to fit on the seat. Oh well.

Jaime said...

I'd like one of those hammock swings delivered to my office right away...i'm ready for a nap

Roy Scribner said...

The canyon looks like a fun ride! There's (or used to be) a rope kind of like that on the Alsea River, about 4 miles west of the town.

willow said...

How did I know you would come up with some unique swings? Fun post.

VE said...

ronda - And thanks for coming all the way back. I know it is quite a hike! No...the poles don't connect where you think. They actually have a cross bar they sit on and then another small cross bar for the feet below.

chris - In any subject; there is always something ridiculously extreme...

nessa - Wow, all that time I was online dating I never met any swing performers! haha. Good luck on the song...or not!

dalton - Ouch. Yeah, kids are dumb. I saw a circus performer hang from his heels on the rings and so I tried it...broke my back.

matt-man - Yeah, I love the simplicity too. Wait for the fights on who gets to swing though...

brian - A swing trampoline! Good one. Yeah, you bounce up and then it's not there...you hit the ground and then it comes back and hits you in the head...

gab - Yes for any mundane thing you can find something ridiculous or extreme

beth - Even I have toned down the extreme over time. Too many prior injuries is my excuse...

moooooog35 - Rumor has it you started that rumor! Which is, of course, FALSE! Not that there's anything wrong with that. Meanwhile, you're very close on the spoof list. You might just be around all week!

tom - Yes...they should make it their new campaign!

anne - Ha! You missed your window! I was a pretty fun swing.

jaime - Ha! Excellent idea. A little hard to cover up the fact that you aren't working, but probably worth the extra risk

roy - Wow; not familiar with that one. Did you ever do the rope swing off the bridge on the American river? It was 65 up and in the middle of the bridge. It hung down about 30 feet with another 35 foot drop to the water below it. You had to pull the rope up and walk it out left or right until it was horizontal and then jump on the little wood seat for a screaming ride down and then up and then back and forth until you finally dropped the remaining bit.

VE said...

willow - Well because VE I am...and I would eat green eggs and ham!

Wings said...

Wow - your kids have one cool uncle!!!

And that is the BEST bus stop ever! They need more of those!

ReformingGeek said...

I might be able to manage that last one in the woods but I would surely crap and pee my pants on any of the others and they could be quite messy while performing for the crowd!

VE said...

wings - Yeah...he's got this mega amazing home. It even has a "Scooby Doo" room behind this bookcase...

VE said...

reforminggeek - I know, I know. Swinging at the bus stop is quite terrifying... ;)

easytravel said...

thanks for share. great blog.See you on my hub also, I hope we can share information.

Betsy said...

I don't know about that pole swing! ha-ha! Happy TT ~ you're right...now boring at all!

easytravel said...

thanks for share. see you on my hub.

VE said...

easytravel - Thanks...I don't have a hub...but I do have a wifey-poo!

betsy - Yeah, I'm afraid I'd swing and just keep right on going down like felled tree. But maybe that's just me...

easytravel - Well if you mean you're on TT then perhaps I'll see you from there. Thanks for the drop in.

I wish bus stops in my city had that swing. Though if they did, I'd never get on the bus.

Oh, don't forget about sex swings VE.

Jacki said...

I once did a bungee-jumping-type thingee at an amusement and that was fun. Free falling for 200 feet and then swinging around. It was fun.

I would really dig that last swing....but the others...not so much. I wouldn't trust them to not malfunction somehow.

Quirkyloon said...

I think if we had the bus stop swings? Our public transportation system just might soar through the sky.

Swings could actually help us be a more eco friendly citizens!

No more smog! Thanks to the swings!
No more traffic jams! Thanks to the swings.
No more ????

Can you tell I like the idea of the bus stop swing? heh heh

Long time ago I went to New Orleans and there was a burlesque 'club' that had a woman on a swing. She would swing in and out of the club. There was a little boy on the sidewalk watching her and he looked up at his dad and said "I want to swing with her." The dad patted his son's head and said "me too son, me too."

VE said...

freetheunicorns - Sorry...don't swing that way! ;)

jacki - Yeah...that's why I don't bungee jump or skydive. I'd be the one that it malfunctions on...

quirky - Of course, I'd want to fly into the bus from the swing...

gladys - Ha! Classic tale! Me too...

Mrsupole said...

I like all the different swings, but the hammock swing would be more for my age.

I also like the bus one. Have you figured out that they could put a whole swing system together that could get us to work, you would buckle up, and then they would just swing you all the way to work. Something like the ski lifts, only it is swings. What fun and then you would also be getting exercise while doing. It would cut down on weight related health issues, just think about it. Kinda like Tarzan in the city thing. There you go a way to get rich and be healthy, save the environment, save people's lives. What more could you ask for? Oh a reality check. But this is real, right.

God bless.

I remember at the fair they had a ride that was a bunch of swings that went around and around. I thought it was a great idea, until I got on it. I was soooo sick! I don't think I'll ever get on a swing again!

Perpetual Chocoholic said...

Swings always make me sick to my stomach and give me a headache.

Dakota Bear said...

Nice assortment of swings, I like the hammock swing the best.

Carla said...

I'd like to know how you come up with these topics. I have to say, I think the last swing would be the funnest.

Baino said...

Schweeeeet schwings ... wish there was one at my bus stop!

VE said...

mrsupole - Wow, I never knew Tarzan took the bus

elizabeth - I know that ride. Sort of like being in the dryer on spin cycle...

perpetual chocoholic - Guess your not the swinger type ;)

dakota bear - Where else do you get to lay around and swing?

carla - I don't come up with them. I get assigned them via the theme thursday blog site and just sign up on Mr. Linky and then post on Thu.

baino - Me too!

Some of these, just the picture made me dizzy, but I'd really like to try Unc's launching platform swing. Or, at least I remember the day when I would have.

Also, I especially like the swing at the bus stop idea.

I'd say you thunk outside the toaster on this one, for sure.

Serena said...

Swinging is no longer just for kids. Or sex addicts.

Sandra Leigh said...

I went back to check, and yes, the bus stop swing is just about my speed. The death-defying ones later on are, well, death-defying, and I don't think I'm up for that.

Janna said...

I'm afraid of heights, so a few of those would scare the heck out of me.

I might be able to handle the bus stop one.

The freaky construction pipe one is actually pretty cool.

If I got in the hammock one, I'd never be able to get out again.

The Silver Fox said...

Very nice variety of shots. The next to the last looks a bit uncomfortable.

Maureen said...

Gag. I can barely handle the kiddie swings at the play park....

Damn inner ear vertigo.

VE said...

A.Decker - That because it gets so hot thinking inside the toaster!

serena - Who'd have thunk it?

sandra - That's ok. That's the beauty of swings...there is a version for everyone.

janna - The bus one is good until you swing out too far...and get hit by the bus...

silver fox - Yeah, I thought so too. Sort of like being on a bike seat too long or something.

maureen - You have an Alfred Hitchcock movie right inside your ear? Amazing!!!!

yellojkt said...

Swing, swing a song, swing out loud, swing out strong...

That's not how the song goes?

...nevermind.

subtorp77 said...

Think I'd much prefer that boring bus-stop swing to the radio tower one! And bungee jumping---NFW!!!

Kurt said...

I would love to swing while waiting for the bus.

VE said...

yellojkt - Ha! Your Neil Diamond obsession is sneaking up on you!

subtorp77 - NFW? You mean "Newest Fun Workout", right?

kurt - I wonder if the bus driver would wait while you finish your swinging?

subtorp77 said...

VE, noooo! "Now Fairly Wet"! That's what I'd do if I did the bungee thing( of course you know, I'm just keepin' it clean )...never you mind, wot?

VE said...

subtorp77 - Yeah...that wouldn't be good...

Megan said...

I couldn't do the building one. No way no how. The last one is the best!

VE said...

megan - I've been on that last one. It was a lot of fun!

reyjr said...

I'd love to go on that last swing! :D looks exciting!

VE said...

reyjr - It is. It's a nice long swing; nothing super high or super scary and you return back and can step right off. He engineered it well...
