The Last Post of the Year and Decade

Well gang, this is it for 2009! I’ve got the blog roll updated up to this point. Don’t worry, I’ll update the tallies for this post as I reset for the beginning of the year. It usually takes me a couple of days to get things sorted and started up for the new year.

When I started this blog back in May 2006 I was a newly divorced guy working for “the man”. A lot has happened during all this humor that you may or may not have been aware of. Consider that I internet dated 72 different women (a LOT of first dates…don’t even go there), got remarried, moved twice, had a house built, got laid off after 17 years at the same company and was unemployed for the first time since I was 13 and then wrote two novels (still in the revision cycle with both). Let’s just say that’s a lot of change happening behind the scenes.

But here in the Fantastical Nonsense world I posted 266 times this year. That’s down slightly from the 287 I posted last year. Then again, I stopped posting on nearly every single day this year. Most people couldn’t keep up anyway. As it stands right now I post Tue,Wed,Thu,Fri,Sun. Last year nobody commented on every single post I did but Serena and Kurt were by far the over-achievers with my only 200 threshold breakers (Serena at 275 and Kurt at 261). This year, a dozen readers broke that magic 200 barrier. Last year only 17 readers broke 100. This year, 28 readers made the magic 100. Last year, 208 different bloggers were linked up to my blog roll. This year 298 different bloggers honored me with a visit. Astounding!

Last year I celebrated my dedicated readers by offering them an astounding 10 cents per comment for their efforts. It was a gift, I never promised anything when I set up the blog roll. I never promised anything this year and even though I am unemployed, I still offer up the same 10 cents per comment to any of my readers that commented over 50 times this year. A funny thing, I didn’t go bankrupt either. Most readers just enjoy the fun and wouldn’t take the offer. Those few that did take me up on it; I was happy to oblige. Either way, the offer stands. Just send me a personal email (you can find the address in my profile).

So without further ado, here were our BIG Blogroll Winners (yes, my two perfect commenters get the traditional blog gnome abuse):

Elizabeth with Elizabeth and her Completely Visible Chinese Baby. Elizabeth managed to stay perfect despite going to China to adopt a baby; a long trip. She’s fortunate that I lag back and don’t update right away because once I do update, there’s no going back! Her blog is a trial and tribulation of the frustration and then joy of adopting a baby from China. One other thing I can relate with Elizabeth about is that I’ve been to both of the Alaska towns she’s lived in while commenting here (Nome and Juneau) and not a lot of people can say that. Elizabeth started commenting right at the tail end of 2008 but once 2009 wiped the slate clean, she’s never missed once. I can’t even say that about a meal…

Janna with Jannaverse. Janna was not only perfect but she demanded an audit when I miscounted her once. Sheesh…my readers put me to task on the blog roll! Janna has some of the funniest, wittiest and fantastical nonsense comments on here. We have similar tastes in humor. Plus, the gnomes love to stalk her! Her word definitions are things I’ve never been good at but are great and she kicked my butt at some crazy online word game earlier this year. I’d probably avoid playing her at Boggle even though I’ve never lost a game (just because of that fact). Janna started commenting right at the beginning of the year…literally. Good timing on that one!

Let’s salute their perfection! (you left me speechless…well, besides these 1000 or so words on this post that is)

For the rest of my readers…I’ll reflect on you all starting with my first blog post for 2010. After that…it’s nothing but humor as usual. The blog roll will flip when I get the chance to update. The first few days I'll try and refresh often so be patient.
And thanks to all of you for a ridiculously fun 2009! Imagine what 2010 holds...

Do I get to be the last "First"? Yippee!!!

Wow, I have been to Juneau, but I think that was before Elizabeth moved there. And I really like bananas too. They have lots of potassium and are very healthy.

Congrats to both Elizabeth and Janna for their 265 (soon 2b 266) comments. I have enjoyed their comments immensely and have to agree that Janna does give you a run for your money. Looking forward to joining those two in 2010 but I might have to change my site to "At Mrsupole's Place" so that I will not always be stuck in the third place position cause you know how I like to be "First". Okay, I am just kidding, I will take third.

VE, "Happy New Year to you" and your wifey-poo (and congrats to her for sticking around through all of our comments), and to your off spring.

Also wanted to say "Happy New Year" to everyone else and to thank all of you for playing with me in the "First" silly game that I cannot even remember who started. And it is "on" again in 2010 because "insomnia" told me that I was stuck with him. I really hope I lose this coming year because that will mean I kicked "insomnia" out the door.

God bless, and Happy New Year!!!

DANG! Third!

Oh heck. I don't care, really, where I come in. Just getting over here is the fun part. Here's to one heck of a new decade, VE :)

You’re an inspiration – whatever life happens to throw your way, you manage to retain your amazing sense of humour.

(72 Internet dates?! Yikes!)

Happy New Year to you!

Damn! 2 comments shy!

Thank goodness you got yourself a Sugar-Mama to support you in the lifestyle you have grown accustomed to!

Whew!

I'd hate to think you might have to start selling off the gnomes!

Dee said...

my head is still spinning with the knowledge that you dated 72 women over the internet.....

Dee said...

hey wait a minute is that like the 72 virgins in heaven thingy that terrorist blow themselves up for?

Jacki said...

So what made your wife stand out among the 72 women you internet-dated?

I admire you for your dedication to your blog. I started out strong, but what with Emma in school, homework, working, etc, I started ignoring my blog. I'm making it a point to start blogging again in the new year, because I miss the creative outlet.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

Kurt said...

I didn't realize that some people were too classy to take their 10-cents-a-post monies. Does it help that I gave it to a charity?

mama-face said...

I love your blog and if I'd known there was a cash prize involved I would have been much more diligent in my commenting. Typical. I started late in the game (last Feb.)-so one of my resolutions this year will be to make it on your infamous list. It might be my only resolution.

Happy New Year.

mama-face said...

Well, technically I am on your list...just not in the prize winning area. I should just be grateful, I know. :)

mrsupole - I'm guessing you'll be a commenter to be reckoned with in 2010! Let's hope the insomnia part gets left behind...

subby - We'll try to have some fun. I might have something funny up my sleeves still...

beth - Yeah, 72, pathetic, huh? It's hard to find somebody when you're in your 40s. So much baggage, baggage, baggage....

incredible woody - I know. Sadly only one comment shy after this post. That's still higher than 95% of everyone else...

quirkyloon - Yes, it is fortunate. Actually, I got a decent severance that keeps me going. I will have to do something this next year or the gnomes will be up for sale (they hate that...)

dee - When dating in your 40s...you really can't expect a lot of virgins...

jacki - She was beautiful! Also, around same age (I wasn't into collecting some little 20-something wife), similar interests, wasn't a nurse, didn't own horses and didn't prescribe to that "sex only on holidays and birthdays" routine. Hope you get your creative outlet back...do the blog for yourself as often as you want to...

kurt - I like that you give it to charity and I don't put judgement on who asks for it and who doesn't. I wouldn't offer it in the first place if I did that...

mama-face - You have a whole new year to participate. The blog door is always open and the gnomes are ready to party!

Uncivil said...

Hell of an enjoyable year with ya VE!
OK...next year you need to seperate us by political party and religion??????
Do you work for the census by any chance?

mama-face said...

Hey I'm back...and not just in an attempt to earn me some more points (it's too late for that, right?) but I wanted to tell you how much your post about blogs that have seemingly disappeared touched me. I've been wondering about Hit 40 for quite some time...anywho. That was a sweet post.
done.

Megan said...

I'm glad I didn't slide out of the top 10 - it was close call this year.

Here's to 2010 and beyooooond.

Oh, I'm supposed to tell you that my brother will begin commenting again when he gets his blog spoof - I guess he was in the next batch to get one and he's all bitter. I told him to suck it up...

Gladys said...

I could have been a contender! If the gnomes would have stopped deleting my comments. Damn those gnomes. Hey little gnomies, I have candeeee!!!!

Elizabeth said...

Wow, I can't believe I actually did it! It was a fun challenge and I really enjoyed reading your blog. It was something fun to read during those dark days of waiting for our referral from China! Well, that, and I can also get a little OCD about these things. Thank you for the .10 a post offer, but I think I'll decline. The money would probably just go to buying another Wiggles video, and really, I think 9 is enough. Is it pathetic that my husband and I like watching them with her as much as she does? Don't answer that.
I hope you all have a wonderful 2010.
:) Elizabeth

72 internet dates. Sounds like you enjoy torture;-)

ReformingGeek said...

Congrats to Elizabeth and Janna but you nearly lost me at the 72 Internet dates. WOW!

Yes, do tell us the story of how you met and kept Wifey-Poo!

I also didn't realize you got laid off. Mine came after 22 years so I know the feeling. Oh, well.

Maureen said...

Hey VE, just wanted to say how much I enjoy coming here, blogroll competition or not; I would still comment. You really blow me away with how often your twisted mind comes up with all this great stuff.

Thanks for all the laughs and wishing you and yours the best of everything in 2010.

Cheers!

I hope 2010 brings for you only the bestest in surprises and glories you've worked for.
Many thanks for bringing smiles when most needed...

72 internet dates! Impressive persistence there. Did you marry one? It's been a hoot of a year VE. Great blog. Love the participation in Theme Thursday and you can keep your money. I come here just for shits and giggles! I am never disappointed.

Janna said...

Wow! I've never been roasted by gnomes before. This must be some strange rite-of-passage, after which they'll finally give me the location of the pot of gold and the rainbow and all that.
No, wait.
That's leprechauns.

Well, maybe they'll tell me what it was like starring in Taxi for all those years, plus I can hear about being married to Rhea Perlman...
No, wait.
That's Danny Devito.

Ok, I'll just have to take the $26.60, then. ;)

Thanks for a wonderful fun-filled year. I love people with bizarre minds. :)

Congrats on an abundant 2009 and an even better 2010.

Mrsupole said...

Oops, I forgot that I get the .10 per post I commented on, and so I would like to ask that my share be donated to whichever Charity that Kurt donates to and if he does not have one then I would choose the Boys and Girls Club of America as the next choice. Although maybe if I add a few extra dollars to it you could donate it towards a subscription for the OPE since I did promise I would try to somehow come up with the money. Okay, just kidding, donate it to charity.

Happy New Years!!!!

God bless.

reforminggeek - Then you know all about the unemployment/layoff reality. Oh well. I'm the better for it in the end. Yes, I'll have to do some internet dating posts; lots of material there!

janna - The gnome abuse is an honored privelege only a few have had on the blog. You deserved it!

brian - And to you too, my friend. I know I'll see you in 2010...

lime - Now you know you'd be in the top 10 if you hadn't gone and taken that job! I tried to warn you...

serena - As the big winner in 2008, you've had the gnome abuse! One should rarely survive a couple of them...

nanc - Sorry...I bought a jolly rancher with it...

mrsupole - Charity is always acceptible with me...

roy - Don't worry...I have lots of TP...
