Poor Canada…it was pointed out that I picked on them for fun when I posted my thoughts on the Winter Olympics held in Vancouver. Actually, I didn’t, per say, pick on Canada that much. I mean, I could have been much more merciless…
I could have pointed out that the Canadian Mounties now have women in the ranks. Of course, being a guy, that immediately generated the thought that “mounties” took on a whole new meaning…
I could have even pointed out that the Canadian Mounties train in Regina. Seriously, how can anyone not be thinking “vagina” when talking about Regina? I can’t…
I could have elaborated my opinions on the sport of curling. Why is that a sport? It’s the only sport I can think of that requires no athletic ability. Come on…they’re athletes could all endorse Krispy Kreme and it wouldn’t matter a bit. As long at they can slide this oversize hockey puck with a handle then it’s all good. Basically this sport is just extreme shuffleboard on ice. I do know that if those funny guys frantically sweeping the ice ever want to train, I've got hardwoods they can sweep all year long...
You know, I used to think the biathlon was a weird combination. You ski like hell and then you shoot a rifle at a target. Weird! It’d be like having to do a triple axle and then serve tea or something. I now understand it’s based on the reality that people used to have to ski out into the tundra to kill their dinner and since these days shooting animals or spectators is verboten they’ve resorted to the target shooting.
No, my thoughts on the Canadian Winter Olympics were all positive. I enjoyed the games when I didn’t have to watch curling or hockey (unless it was the USA or Canada). The ski events were fun to watch. I loved the coverage where they’d play up one of our athletes only to watch them crash and burn right afterward.
All in all, Canada did a great job hosting. I saw lots of celebrities in the crowds. Michael Phelps was there. I’m not sure if he was buying hemp products or getting inspiration for the next summer Olympics. Maybe both.

I didn't watch this time round ,but it didn't stop Mom from watching( and cursing all the judges ever time the U.S. disdn't win )...and too amny adverts, she says!!!
Dang, I should wake up before I type anything, heh, heh...
LOL @ the Phelps ref ( or is that "reef" )HA!
We had our own biathalon in the Navy but it involved the proto-type for the MILES gear...
Yea, Subby is first and I am second or is it fourth. Are we starting our back and fourth again. LOL
God bless.
BTW: Think of my poor kids and grandkids, Dad or grandpa is from Canada, and Mom or grandma is from the USA. Who do they root for in the Hockey game? Okay, I guess it is not hard since they grew up in the US, but then Canada is their second choice.
Gee I was second today. Sigh. But then Subby was first, yea! Oh okay, yea to anyone who is first.
Canada rocks since hubby came from there. What can I say.
Oh wow, why am I hearing my favorite Muse song everywhere?
God bless.
@ Mrsupole, I just root for who-ever is winning at the moment, HA!
Yay Canada. Yay curling.
@ Tom, YAY. It's over.
Curling originated in Scotland, not Canada! Although it is an import. (snore)
As for hockey – today is the day - Canada vs. the U.S.
May the best team win and I hope it is us – as in us, not U.S. ;)
I am glad it's just about over, too. I think sometimes the drama that was going on was better than watching the events themselves. I'm only looking forward to the USA-Canada hockey game today at 3pm! GO USA!!!
I like the speed skating.
the lympdicks are over? I've been too busy to watch.
Certified Olympaholic here. Although I will admit that I took a pass on curling. Does that mean my card will get revoked?
If they could cancel the opening and closing ceremonies it wouldn't be so bad.
Subby – I actually don’t care for all the emphasis we put on just the American athletes. If somebody from another country is the best, I want to see them compete too…
Mrsupole – Sounds like you’ll have a divided family outing on the hockey game!
Tom – Ha! My hair’s curly enough…
Subby – Not yet…but almost
Beth – You’re like the walking Wikipedia of curling! ;) I’m actually rooting for Canada in the hockey game. The USA has already won gold in hockey…let the Canadians experience it…
Collette – I think it’s the media that makes a lot of the drama…
Kurt – Me too. The short track stuff is pretty wild…
Gladys – Busy? There’s no excuse for busy…just poor procrastination techniques…
Incredible woody – No…avoiding curling is ok unless you live somewhere they force you to enjoy it…
Perpetual chocoholic – You could trim your nails while watching it to pass the time…
I didn't watch it but I got tired of everyone talking non-stop about it at work. Is tonight the last night? Oh I hope so.
they were fun, we caught the highlights on the website...curling, not so much. weird sport...need to look up the country of origin on that one...
I can't help thinking that curling originated with a load of bored people pushing hot kettles along the ice.
I enjoyed most everything that was actually a sporting event. All the filler bugged, though. But it always does.
hockey's fun, especially when there's lots of fighting. but i cannot understand the point of curling. it's more useless than golf.
I tried curling once, and it's harder than it looks. It's also marginally more enjoyable than it looks. The first time, at least.
the only Olympics I watched
was the hockey game..
stupid Canada won the hockey game
stupid stupid Canada
pffffffffffffftttttt
"You ski like hell and then you shoot a rifle at a target. Weird! It’d be like having to do a triple axle and then serve tea or something"
LOL!
Other possibilities:
1. Shovel the driveway and then make a pot of marinara sauce
2. Ten minutes of speed-skating followed by brushing the hair of a Persian cat
3. Build a snowman and then enter a chili-eating contest
4. Snowball fight, followed by changing the oil in a 1988 Buick Reatta
WooHoo! We Rule at hockey;-)
Okay.
You highlighted the word mounties and vagina.
Ahem.
AND... the biathlonetes will be extremely sought after once the ZA hits. (Don't even TELL me you don't what the ZA is.)
I am bitter that all the figure skating was on at weird times and I missed it! What a hockey game tonight, eh?! :-)
Canada has redeemed themselves in the closing ceremonies. Adding humor goes a long way!
I also enjoyed all the crashes after they highlighted the athlete!
Maybe that was Evil Twin talking!
I don't know how anyone is ever first on the comments.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy the Olympics and this one as well. It is the only sports I enjoy.
Hockey, however, is the only sport that I can't enjoy even in the Olympics. BoooRING! Curling, on the other hand, mesmerizing!
But curling might be my only shot at ever being a competitive Olympic athlete. Don't bring down my vibe, man.
Crash & Burn... you know that's what we're all watching for. Curling... not so much.
hey- there were some pretty pudgy bobsledders there, too! at least the curlers don't wear skin-tight jumpsuits!
Elizabeth – It’s all over…now I’ll have to turn the TV off until the Academy Awards are on…
Brian – Somebody said it was from Scotland. I think Sean Connery retired to play curling…
Baino – I hope they weren’t too hot lest they end up at the bottom of the lake…
Megan – If they’d just stick to the athletics…
Jaime – It doesn’t take up as much real estate though…
Brian – I’d probably slip and break something before I ever made it to the game…
Jen – I actually rooted for them. The USA has already won a hockey gold before. It was Canada’s turn…nothing better to do it on your home turf too…
Janna – Ha! See how I provide you with a complete blog post right here in the comments…
Perpetual chocoholic – Yes…you finally do!
Quirkyloon – Of course I did…I’m a guy…
Sarah – It was a good game. I can’t watch figure skating…too much pressure having to watch them fall on their arses…
Reforminggeek – They are good at adding humor…
Annie ha – I’ll agree with you about hockey…unless it was USA vs Canada. I couldn’t care about at game between Latvillania and Korekoslavia…
Roy – Work on those stones…or work on getting stoned…
Catladylarew – Not a lot of curling injuries I’m guessing…
Aladdinsane12 – Weight helps the Bobsled go down faster…of course the Americans won that...
Mr Gab did watch some and so therefore I did too. We were right there when Canada beat USA in hockey.
Olympics? Do they still have those?
gab - And I'm glad they did...they deserved to finally win at the sport they started...
silver fox - Yes...and if you've got 400 million dollars, you could host one too!
Damn you Canada for beating the US in hockey. We have rescinded Sidney Crosby's Visa.
