The Cat in the Hat Comes Back for a Reunion

Today's Theme Thursday again. The theme is HAT

I thought that I'd revisit that famous Dr. Seuss children's book "The Cat in the Hat" again. One important traight in todays entertainment reality is that we have to keep introducing sequels until we ruin a good thing. These days everything needs to be overmilked.

Now the Cat in the Hat, he had a successful debut in 1957 and then a successful return in 1958. Imagine if he came back for a reunion after all these years?

Here's how I think it would all go down:

What if the Cat in the Hat came back yet once more?
The children, now grown, wouldn’t behave as before

With jobs and kids, their free time's disappeared
So wanting some fun would most likely feel weird

The whole stacking bit would no longer impress
“Do the dishes instead, they’re quite a big mess”

Instead of worrying about fixing one of his tricks
They’d roll their eyes briefly and feed him Meow mix

If he brought out his box with thing one and thing two
Would they all head downtown to get a brand new tattoo?

And their mother who always left home all alone
Is now alone at the retirement center without even a phone

They’d sold off the old home to a developer in town

Who made a fortune on condos by tearing it down

And Sally demanded that cats A through Z
Get busy mowing the lawn and pruning the tree

His fancy clean up gadget they took while he was sleeping
They claimed such a device needed safekeeping

They patented his device and sold the design away
All to address bills they couldn’t afford to pay

As for the cat in the hat, they shipped him off for breeding
There’s money in that and they no longer need him

Yes...some things SHOULD be left alone...

The Cat in the Hat needs to stay away from the Bat in the Tat and really stay safe.

God bless.

Yeah, and make me get out my dictionary to look up trait. Took me a minute to figure that one out.

I think Theodore would like this ;) Great updated version, VE!

Play with Cat in the Hat all you want buddy.

But STAY AWAY from Green Eggs and Ham.

@ Kelly... green ham...an Army tradition :P No green eggs tho', only plastic( powdered )~~UGH!

You're very clever . . and sequels are never as good as the originals. I am tardy I am late, this is something that I hate.

Traight?

That was brilliant Mr. VE! Funny!

Hmm. Trait or traight. Hmm.

I dunno, VE. I think there are a lot more fond fans of the Hatted Cat than you may think, and a comeback reception might be a good deal warmer than that one. I never see a parade around here without seeing dozens of those tall, tilted striped hats in the watching crowd.

Ah, poor Kitty!

Cats mowing lawns? Now there's a thought.

Never cared much for that cat.

oh, I hate that cat in the hat, oh the bad memories I have of reading that book a million times...but your version was a million times better. Much more realistic. This is meant as a sincere compliment.

I laughed at this post, at first in my house. I laughed at this post, once again with a mouse!

I like this version better than the one with Mike Myers!

I HATE all of Dr. Seuss' books! Even just looking at the pictures creep me out!

I was always kinda fond of Thing One and Thing Two... they were deliciously evil!

Gladys said...

Wouldn't thing one and thing two be considered crack heads?

Well done. I wonder how you would do at Christmastime, with Cindy Lou Who. Or would you?

You're so right. Some things SHOULD be left alone, but then you had to go ahead and mess up a good thing, didn't you? ;)

serves the cat right. He was kind of a stinker.

Mrsupole – I make up words whenever it fits me. It’s your job to know them anyway! Oh, and I will try and avoid the bat with the tat…

Subby – He’d appreciate the humor in it, I’m sure…

Kelley – I can do them in a post, I can do them from the Coast…

Subby – Yes…military food…meh

Baino – Good use of rhymes…now if only it would yield an extra blog roll point. Nice try…

Quirkyloon – Our is not reason why but to savior every humor morsel…

Roy – You might be right. Personally, I think it is split pretty evenly and if you end up with the wrong crowd…hence my version on what that might be like…

Reforminggeek – That’s right…put those cats to work so you don’t have to…

Incredible woody – You’re probably jealous because he doesn’t work and is always up to no good…

Mama-face – Sorry you had to relive those years again. I suppose all your ex-boy crushes showing up later today was also a bad idea on my part…

Roy – Was it mighty mouse? Cause he’s cool…

Perpetual chocoholic – And in VE’s case…thank goodness!!!

Nonamedufus – That Mike Myers one was irritating…

Elizabeth – Wait until I tell you all the evil things that happen in the 100 Acre woods too…

Catladylarew – They were the definitive out-of-control kids. Sort of like me still…

Gladys – Is that what they’ve been up to? No wonder they had to sell so many books…

Sharonheg – I’ll think up post and I’ll think it up fast, I’ll fool the little girl with my verbal blast…

Unfinished rambler – You know how I like to mess with things. Don’t put me at the exit seat on the plane with the hatch lever…

Tom – It was all about him, wasn’t it?

A very fun read...and it reminded me of how much I loved the Cat in the Hat and how grateful I am for Dr. Seuss.

Chris Eldin said...

This is actually quite good as far as rhymes go!! Love this idea... I'll try not to *borrow* it.

aww. i feel bad for the new cat in the hat. it's just not right to ship him off to the breeder.

VE said...

Jenjen – I’ve been called smart before…but rarely without the ass following…

Christine – He is missed…well…by most…

Chris – “Borrow” away…you’ve always got my permission…

Sewa mobil – cats are funny that way…

Jaime – I guess he ran out of tricks…

secret agent woman said...

That is a very discouraging re-make!

VE said...

secret agent woman - I know...I told you everything gets ruined if you keep messing with it...

Megan said...

I can recite The Cat in the Hat...

Janna said...

The original book
Was worth a look

Such silly fun
For everyone

The movie is not
So very hot

Mike Myers, why?
Why why why WHY?

gab said...

Yeah lets leave some things alone. I just found out there is to be a SHREK 3! or would it really be 4? I dont know but after 1 AND 2 they should have shut the door.

VE said...

megan - That should be a requirement in life...

janna - Ha! That was one of the most obnoxious movies...

gab - I agree...

The Silver Fox said...

Brilliant!

And here's my take on the "Cat in the Hat" film.

VE said...

silver fox - Excellent...
