I Got the Taxman Blues

Taxman: You have to pay for all your COBRA…$7,000
Me: No, that was paid as part of my severance
A new law gave them credit back for that money and taxes you for it now

Why didn’t I know that?
They enacted it in Nov and made it retroactive

Great…

This actually happened to me…

Damn, don't ya' just love the tax laws!

Mrsupole said...

All I can say is please don't get me started on "taxes". I hate freaking taxes.

Taxers can go see the grim reaper and then get reaped, but fat chance that will ever happen.

Taxers can KMA.

Taxers are the devil reincarnate.

Taxers are gobernents and gobernents can go see the grim reaper too.

I hate the gobernents because they take "our" tax money and freaking waste it on their little pet projects, well you know like airplane rides, booze, hotels, sex, the things the damn crooks do, but at least crooks are honest about taking your money and robbing you blind unless of course one of them Madeoff with it through a ponzi scheme, oh wait, I forgot the gobernent runs the biggest ponzi scheme of them all.

Yeah, just don't get me started on taxes or I might get carried away.

God bless everyone but the damn gobernent taxing theives. I hate taxes.

Mrsupole said...

PS...Sorry they freaking did that to you. Damn them for thinking they have a right to what is not theirs. Their arses need to be fired and then we need to retroactive it back to how it was, lets say about 150 years ago when there were no taxes.

Just another reason we need to go to the "Flat Tax" system if we are to continually have a taxation system forced upon us. Fire the damn a-holes who keep writing these new laws.

GB you, but not the freaking gobernent taxaholics. I need a drink......

Ronda Laveen said...

Who voted that law into being 1 mo. before the End of the Year? Those congresspeople need to be revealed.

Brian Miller said...

well isn't that special...yep, would not be voting for them again. nice 55 VE.

my 55 is up!

Subby said...

Doncha just loooove those retroactive laws? Massachusetts has a habit of going after one's estate if they've ever been a part of the state health care system...just sayin'; better do some research, heh...

Oh MAN, that sucks! Will they at least let you pay it out? I mean, how many people have a spare $7K laying around for a rainy day?

But think of all the people you help to keep in work...oh, not helping? See if you can spot the lyrics in my 55 words

Of course they did. It's just what we've come to expect from them.

Roy said...

Ah yes, the Taxman!

Roy Scribner said...

$7,000 would just about cover your property tax bill down here. Stay healthy!

Elizabeth said...

I agree with Lime!

Quirkyloon said...

Forward the bill to Mr. Obama. I'm sure he'll be happy to take care of it.

Gladys said...

Yes once again you are taxed for being out of work.

It is disgusting what a former employer doesn't tell you upon departure. Sad story, my friend. My 55 is also up. You can find it HERE.

Incredible woody – Boy, they’ll let anyone be first these days ;)

Incredible woody – I don’t mind ‘em; I just don’t want them to enforce them

Mrsupole – Ha! I think I did get you started! And your comment was longer than my post… ;)

Mrsupole – There are some government things I like. I like the library of congress and the national archives…

Ronda – That’s not ok…if I’d have known that was happening…I would have dropped COBRA coverage.

Brian – I’m not crying a river though because it is for fairly high income earners. What I object to is the retroactive way they did it.

Subby – I’ve heard about Taxachusetts…and wait until my next installment of the T-shirt series…

Jingle – Thanks…I’ve never painted a stry before…

g-man – Maybe I should go find another person with my name and collect the money from HIM! I’m VE! And that money really tied the room in…

sharonheg – Actually…I do…well, I did…

john – My money probably purchased 27 bullets bound for the Middle East…

lime – Great…now the day care kids are all upset of your prolific swearing! ;) But the gnomes like it. They say…”all hail, Lime!”

sharkirack – 7K was nifty…when I had it…

pattiken – Yeah, it’s sad…it really doesn’t come as that much of a shock. Ok, handing over the money was but after that…not so much…

roy – How true…

roy – The sad part of it is that I have a $7,000 property tax payment to make in Nov too. Thanks to those damn Californians…our property taxes are through the roof here! ;)

Elizabeth – Of course you do…we all do…

Quirkyloon – I’ll call him up and have him over for dinner so he can write the check in person…

Gladys – I’m not going to whine that much because I’m not living in a tent in Haiti…but I don’t like the fact that my former company didn’t have to pay at all and I did…

Monkey man – I suspect they knew that bill was coming…very sad…

Janna said...

Yikes!
How rotten.
They should be smacked with a rusty cheese-grater and thrown into a hot salty mud puddle.

Thanks for another Friday 55. :)
Mine's posted here!

Great Googly Moogly!

Great 55!

Baino said...

Shit you must be earning a bit to have a $7,000 tax bill! That reminds me, haven't done mine yet gah!

Subby said...

HA! Just remembered when I took Mom to the podiatrist this morn; the receptionist asked if Mom had any allergies. I started naming some and then said "taxes, we're both allergic to taxes!" Hee, heee!

VE said...

Janna – With all the pre-shredded cheese available, I haven’t seen a cheese grader in years. I’ll bet mine is rusty…

Perpetual chocoholic – And thanks to me…rich jerks

Reforminggeek – You can say that five times fast!

Baino – That’s what happens when they give you a year’s severance…

Subby – Ha! That allergy has been going around!

As if COBRA weren't unaffordable enough already ...

CatLadyLarew said...

Death and taxes... yeah, they're definitely going to get you!

Jaime said...

ugh...the tax man took us for a ride this year too. he sucks

Carla said...

Retro-active and taxes is usually an ominous sign when used in the same sentence.

VE said...

Dennis – Exactly….

Catladylarew – Taxes are going to be the death of me…

Jaime – This is the first year I’ve ever paid…

Carla – I agree…there should be such a thing…people aren’t prepared for that…

The Silver Fox said...

I like the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials.

And I think Al Capone had the right idea about taxes... but was that before or after the syphilis got to his brain?

VE said...

silver fox - I'm ok with paying taxes if I get something out of it in return. I'm not sure what I'm getting except screwed...

Cheryl said...

We replaced all of our windows and were told they were "qualified" for the Tax Credit. Yeah, they changed that TC in Jan 2010 so ours just missed it by .01mm.

That sound you just heard was the toiled sucking another $500 bucks down it's throat.

VE said...

cheryl - Actually, it would have been more fun throwing my 7K down the toilet...at least I could watch it do something...
