Stupid touristy things I haven’t done yet.

Stand on a corner in Winslow, AZ

Pretend to be holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa for a photo

Try to gain the attention of the guards at Buckingham Palace

Raise my arms up in the Rocky Balboa pose on the steps in Philadelphia

Shape my body like one of the letters outside Disneyland ala “YMCA”

Go to the top of the Empire State Building on Valentines Day

Run along side the Tour-de-France bike racers for 8 seconds of an 80 hour, 20 day race.

Reenact the Lavern and Shirley intro bit outside a brewery while in Milwaukee, WI

Buy a multi-thousand dollar outfit and parade around Miami unshaven in my rental Ferrari

Stroll into the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel with a hooker at my side

Walk through the countryside in New Zealand wearing furry feet

I think if you ever did the hooker thing then you would no longer have a wifey poo, so I guess that is one you will totally never do.

What is with the furry feet thing though? Shouldn't you just shave the hair off!!

God bless.

Your bucket list awaits. Too bad that pesky work is getting in the way!

Ummm...why would you stand on a corner in Winslow, AZ? Am I missing something?

Suldog said...

I did one of those things, once, but I'm never telling which one. Couldn't get them to smile, no matter how hard I tried.

Damn. I guess that gives it away. Now you know it was TWO hookers.

Believe it or not, I've done #s 1 and 4. And I've been up to the top of the Empire State Building, but not on Valentine's day. If I'd have known Meg Ryan was waiting up there, I'd have made the effort!

Mrsupole - the furry feet in NZ refers to the three Lord of the Rings movies made by Peter Jackson, filmed entirely in NZ; Hobbits have furry feet.

Jacki - from The Eagles' hit "Take It Easy" (written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey):

"Well, I'm a standing on a corner
in Winslow Arizona
It's such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me."

Mrsupole – Maybe the wifey-poo would dress up as the hooker and we’ll get a room…you know, ask if they rent by the hour…

Catladylarew – Actually, I’ve experienced a number of these things…but not the touristy way. I’ve been through Winslow, AZ, seen the Buckingham guards, been on the steps in Philadelphia, walked passed the tourists making letters at Disneyland, looked out from the top of the Empire State building, driven some of the Tour routes…oh yes, I get around…well, not like THAT!

Jacki – The Eagles…it’s the Eagles song. You know…”Take it Easy”

Suldog – Ha! And here I thought it was hobbits…

Roy – Well, I can’t argue with the Meg Ryan theory. Thanks for clarifying some of these too! You got ‘em…

I was at that place in Philly with some other bloggers, last year. Some of them didn't know who the statue was...

Subby said...

VE, with your luck a Chevy would pull up and th' girl would look like something Basil Wolverton would have drawn upon...!

Subby said...

Thanks. Now I've got that Village People song stuck in my head!

Subby said...

Instead of the skit, you should just try to do Lavern's laugh...it might keep th' gnomes away...just a thought...

VE said...

roy - I was there before the statue...but not before the movie...

subby - With my luck the Chevy would drive by and catch my jacket and drag me through the entire town. I'd live...and then I'd have yet another random misadventure to blog about...

I've done the Buckingham Palace thing.

Hee Hee.

I got to walk up the Leaning Tower of Pisa back in 1976 but I didn't get a photo of me "holding it up".

Take it Easy - Earworm. Thanks.

I was trying to think of where I hear of Winslow, AZ before - thanks for clearing that up. One of my favourite Eagles songs.

I've been to both Disneyland and Disneyworld (many moons ago), but have not heard of this 'letter-shaping' thing of which you speak. Could such behaviour be caused by having ridden Disney's infamous 'earworm' ride?

(You're welcome.)

I was thinking of something touristy (& stupid), but I was derailed after reading Jackie's comment...

OMG, are we REALLY so old that MEGA-STAR bands we listened to in our youth are now little known?? Do the Eagles actually need a freaking reality show - gad almighty, tell me it isn't so.

Too depressed to continue now.

I don't get the Disneyland thing either. But I'm embarassed to say I did do the Buckingham Palace thing.

Somehow, I think you'll make it to old age just fine if you never accomplish any of those things.:-)

Just last month I stopped and stood on a corner in Winslow, AZ. Can't help it. I'm a tourist like that.

Reforminggeek – You were lucky to go into the tower. It would tip over now if they let tourists into it…I remember just trying to find it from the highway…every flippin’ street had a sign pointing to it but some seemed to point the wrong way…as if they were toying with the tourists…

Perpetual chocoholic – I know...you’ve secretly done some of these. Mums the word.

00dozo – Thank goodness the gnomes didn’t hear your Small World reference…it might have been months before they let that one go…

Venom – It is that bad! Did you know the Doobie Brothers are back together with a new CD and I even heard one of the songs and it was good? I thought not. See…it’s already happened…

Elizabeth – I knew it! The Disneyland thing is just that they have Disneyland and California Adventure all spelled out in big individual letters at the entrance and people go and get pictures taken on them and invariably they form their own letters…

Serena – You’re forgetting my luck with things…I think the odds are 50/50…

Incredible woody – I knew it. Next thing you’ll be ordering Beef Chow Mein at Lee Ho Fook’s in London…

Why pretend to hold up the Tower of Pisa when you can actually DO it?

Never mind.

I forget some people aren't as strong as myself.

Carry on.

VE said...

moooooog35 - We're thankful you have the strength to keep this thing from becomming a Pisa log (like a Yule log but less calories)...

sharonheg said...

Have you ried to make a left-hand turn from the right-hand lane? Here in Orlando, it's an everyday occurrence, thanks to tourists.

gab said...

Ive never done any of those either and I really cant see myself with a hooker lol. In fact I havent done a whole lot in my life time. I blog I play pogo I play facebook and I babysit.

Janna said...

Now I'm going to have that Eagles song in my head for the next 47 minutes.

And now I'm picturing four VE clones all doing the YMCA thing at Disney.
Please post pictures, when you finally find cloning technology.
(Is there an app for that?)

Who knew there were so many things I've not done yet? (I have crossed the zebra crossing on Abbey Road, though.)

VE said...

sharonheg - Sounds like a ride at Disneyworld...

gab - Babysitting is enough of an adventure...

janna - Come on now...you can squeeze 56 minutes out of that if you can try...

secret agent woman - Excellent. I never did that and I was in London for over a week once...

as someone who grew up outside of philadelphia and who thinks the rocky statue is a desecration to the art museum because of all the idiot tourists who do that pose and never go into the museum i'd have to hunt you down and hurt you if you ever did that stupid touristy thing.

Megan said...

Does this mean you've kissed the Blarney Stone?

Jaime said...

have you seen the tallest thermometer in the world? that sounds like a pretty stupid tourist attraction to me.

VE said...

lime - Don't worry...I've been to the museum without the stupid pose! Heck, I've even toured the byroads of the Pocanos where stupid tourists get lost!

megan - I'm not a kiss-and-tell guy!

jaime - Ok, in that particular situation...size doesn't matter.

Anne said...

nothing in DC, I see. shame, shame.

lime said...

you are my new hero. thank you. from the bottom of my PA born and bred heart, thank you.

VE said...

Anne – I’m afraid to say that I had to escort my daughter on a field trip there and they did EVERY stupid touristy thing around so I’m not one to mock what I’ve already done…

Lime – Awww…thanks. I have a good friend that lives up in the Poconos and I’ve visited him a couple of times over the years. I usually like to get into the locals mentality if I can figure that out when I’m in a new locale. Of course, there are places like Machu Picchu where you just have to do the tourist thing or you will miss something amazing…
