Down Under

It was 1982 and I flipped a coin.  Heads..Europe.  Tails...Australia.

It came up Heads.

I was off to Europe for a couple months of tourism activities with a friend.

Fast-forward 30 years and 48 countries visited and I still haven't been to Australia.  WTF?

That ends this September.  I'm booked "down under".

Now, because it is September, the wifey-poo and I are headed to the Great Barrier Reef in the North.  It's the optimal time of year to go there.  For one thing, it isn't flooded then.  Another, there aren't any stinging jellyfish floating around to kill you off.  The weather is sunny but not hotter and more humid than my gym steam room.  Besides, it's late winter/early spring around Sydney during that time so we're going to just stay one night there (right in the Rocks area in the heart) to get a sampling for a future trip.

Now Australia...I've heard the tales down under.  They've got tough animals...

They've got strange sports...

But be that as it may...the trip is all booked.  And no thanks to my stupid credit card carrier who put my card on hold because somebody was booking air, hotels and excursions to Australia.  Good for them to catch it the first time.  Bad for them to continue to stop transactions after I called them to say it was me doing that and that I had a dozen more to make.  Ughh...banks...

So, it's two full weeks down under.  A day and a half in Sydney and then the rest of the time around the Cairns/Port Douglas area with one day inland to see the true outback (no, not the steakhouse).

I know what you're thinking.  It's going to be tough.  I mean...parts of the trip we'll be stuck on an island...

Parts of it we'll be stuck in a treehouse...

Some of it we're gonna have to go underground...

While other parts we're gonna have to go over ground...

You can bet there will be parts where we'll be up a creek without a paddle...

And then others where we'll have one...

Yes, it will be rough.  I'll try to have fun and get through it.  I'm sure there will be posts with more details too...

Man, I feel sorry for you two. If you want, I can go in your place. I'm just seriously THAT nice.

You need to stay longer. Then you could go to New Zealand too!

That will be so cool if you and Helen get to meet up down there. That was my first thought while reading this. Although I am thinking you might want to stay away from some of those sports that have paddles down there. That pic is just too funny.

God bless.

Well I get to start my journey in June! Naw Im not going any where half as exciting as you, but my first part of the journey will take me from Minnesota to South Dakota. We are not sure at this point if we will stay there awhile or what(we will be long enough to pack our belongings and sell that house if thats at all possible)Then we are heading to Florida where we will spend our golden years! Well part of the time ...we have decided once we get a place in FL we will do some much awaited traveling!!!!! I have been busy packing and tossing and selling all the stuff he have had here for all the 36 yrs we lived in this house! But I hope to be able to stop even now and again to check on your adventures and up date you on mine! Be safe
