Christmas in San Francisco

What better than to leave the 40 degree fog in Portland and head down to San Francisco for a week where it was sunny and mid 60s in the city and low 70s down South in Monterey and Carmel.

Yes, we walked up and down the steep streets and took the pictures that confuse your brain.

San Francisco is so big and full of cool places to see that even though we'd been there about two years ago and did a lot of touristy stuff, we only repeated one area of the city this time and still had a lot of amazing activities and areas to explore.

The Mission district is full of wacky street art.  Here are a few samples:

Yeah, that last one...I don't remember being in the labor room for my kids being quite the same...but that was awhile ago so perhaps I'm just forgetting...

In the Mission district, even the cars are tagged...

But perhaps the oddest moment of the trip was when we left the Haight-Ashbury district after walking around and having lunch.  We were in the car just turning down a side street to head somewhere else when walking up on the other side of the street was some guy about 60, dressed in only a sock over his junk.  You know how things move slowly as you try to register what is wrong with this picture?  That's how this went.  I can only imagine the scene on Haight street when he arrives.  Needless to say (and for your benefit), we didn't take a picture.

So instead, here's a picture of a painting of a woman with a five o' clock shadow in need of a shave or a man dressed as a woman.  I just don't know...

dude...i love street art....the giving birth one is mucho disturbing...almost as much as the government teacher in school who uses giving birth as a metaphor for the ammendments to the constitution

So what kind of sock was it? Tube? Crew?

Well, um, those folks sure are creative.

As for Mr. Sock, I guess he didn't want to feel any chill.

Glad you had fun!

SF had a vote not too long ago about whether you could be naked in the city. I saw naked buskers playing in support of nakedness, and I took pictures. I don't know how the vote came out.

brian - Yeah, it's funny...the wifey-poo and I both took a step back (literally) when we were walking and shooting pictures in that alley and saw that birth one...

i am woody - Ha! The wifey-poo would know more...she's the detail person.

reforminggeek - They still hang for this kind of art in Texas, right? (at least outside of Austin) :)

kurt - Hard to say based on this guy at Haight. They don't seem to follow laws much there anyway.

I do like the crooked buildings.

anne - There are few places where you can take a picture like that. Even in San Francisco there are only a few streets so steep that they don't parallel park. Makes for a fun optical illusion
